PARRY: WE WON'T STAND STILL IN MARKET

Liverpool

Rick Parry admitted excitement is high at Anfield ahead of the new season and revealed the club's spending may not yet be over.
As he returned with the squad from Hong Kong on Sunday morning, the Reds chief executive spoke of his satisfaction at the way the summer has evolved in terms of new signings and insisted Liverpool will always be in the market for quality players.

"There's always a lot expectation but there's definitely a special buzz about the upcoming season. We're all excited with the new signings we've made and genuinely happy with what we've done," he told Liverpoolfc.tv.

"It was important to get them in as early as possible so that Rafa could have more time working with them. Bringing players in on the last day of the transfer window is never ideal. It was good for our new players to have been involved in the training camp out in Switzerland and then in Hong Kong.

"That doesn't mean to say we'll now be standing still. A lot of clubs have spent significant amounts of money this summer, like Manchester United, Tottenham and Chelsea. Then there's a number of other clubs who've recently also had new investors, such as Newcastle, and there's still a long way to go before the end of the transfer window.

"If a player becomes available and he's the right player for this club then yes we will be interested."

yes but we still need to strengthen our squad and Villa , Alves ,Heinze and a good winger would be perfect.

everyone is missing my point here, youre acting as though im saying that 120 million has been put into the current squad, and im clearly not saying that, coz of course players have been sold (because hes been buying too many below par players!). i dont care how much rafa has lost, be it 50 or 60 million or whatever. i dont care if he has got money back from his 'flops'. The point i have made is that during Rafas spell he has had 120million to spend and he hasnt spent it well. He hasnt improved the team as much as he should have with that money. We havent bought players in recent years of the class of some of the Man U and Chelsea players. And i dont know how anyone can honestly argue with that.

Ok so he hasnt spent it all at once.. and dont mind me using your figures here..

in 04, he got 11m for other players(which has nothing to do with rafa anyway), but that summer he spent 25 million!!!!! Apart from alonso, he wasted alot of money. 25 million is alot of money to have at your disposal.

in 05, he got 12 million from other players which gave him 30 million to spend. Yet again, quite a bit of money.

in 06 he got in 16m and again had a pretty large 30 million at his disposal. Agger was the best purchase, but none of the others are realistically world class players.

Then Rafa had 40 million to spend this summer, and only time will tell how good they are. With the list of players we were linked to, i dont think we got the best ones anyway.

I cant believe you dont understand my agruement, coz it doesnt matter how much money rafa loses or makes, the fact is that at liverpool he has spent 120million, and he hasnt produced the goods. its not as though hes only getting the money in 5m chunks, hes been getting roughly 30+ million each summer! He doesnt know how to spend money. He believes in quantity over quality. Hes too hit and miss in the transfer market. He tries to uncover hidden jems, but the fact is that he is not good at it. hes no Arsene Wenger. Benitez should go for the tried and tested players, who cares about how much money he is, its better than buying a couple of players to warm the bench most of the season to only play against the weaker teams. I think that liverpool deserve the best in the world anyway.

And a final comment on Rafa before I leave, i hope he doesnt play counter attack against most of the teams when we're away from home. Because surely liverpool on an all out attack would beat the majority of teams in the league, be that home or away. Maybe its about time he had some faith in the teams ability. It clearly doesnt suit us being a defensive team, despite the good clean sheets record it clearly doesnt work if you look at the fact that they lost more league games last season that Man U lost in 2 yrs and that Chelsea have lost in the last 3 years. I hope Rafa keeps his promise and plays attacking football!

how can you look at our squad and say we need 4 more players!!??

We have 2 players for every position!!

We're having to loan out our talented youngsters coz there's no chance of them getting near the first team squad this season!!

You may not rate all the players we've got, but this is the team for this season, and if any of them do not perform there will be changes in january (not very likely) or next summer.

The only player we may sign is an extra defender.

The thing I find most strange is people still thinking we might sign another striker, we signed two of them already this summer along with a wide player who many think his best position would be up front as well.

A bit more experienced defensive cover and maybe a genuine winger are about the only things we should be after at this stage.

We're not gonna get Alves and Villa! But if we did, my god what a squad we'd have. Seems like the Chavs in SW6 are getting Alves as for Villa, no mention of whether he's even for sale. I would also add a CB as cover.
