F1 extends calendar to 18 races

Formula One

comment on the article

The Formula One season will contain 18 Grands Prix in 2008, including two new street races in Valencia and Singapore.

And the calendar released by governing body the FIA on Friday does start as usual in Australia, contrary to earlier claims by the Melbourne organisers.

The season is one race longer than this year to accomodate the new events.

The Valencia race is on 24 August with Singapore on 28 September. Both are conditional upon the tracks being approved by the FIA.

What do you think of the new F1 calendar?

I have followed F1 since i was a very young boy, and in all honesty the past five years have been a joke. There is no overtaking in F1, most races are won in the pits or on strategy and not actually on the racetrack.
Maxc Mosely runs the FIA like his dictator father (the fascist Oswald Mosely) led the black shirts.
Its time this mouthpiece for Ferrari and the tobacco companies was relieved of his position, but not that that will change anything.
10yr freeze on engine developement, ridiculous, how about a 10 yr freeze on the FIA making ridiculous regulations that will bring F1 down to its knees.

Great to have 18 races in a season and let's hope its as competitive as this last season. However, where's the logic in freezing engine development for 10 years. For a sport supposedly at the pinnacle, is that not a backward step. F1 should be a nurturing ground for new technologies which can be used in the motoring industry in general.

They would be better I think freezing engine developement through the season and allowing a new design to be submitted, say, before the end of January for the following season.

The real way to push the green factor in F1 would be to limit fuel. Give the teams an allowance for the race.
This makes the fuel burned much more of an issue and the best engine become the one to get the most power out of the least amount of fuel.

andrewj100, that is a very good idea, limiting the fuel for the weekend. And transferrable to road cars as well.
