Quinn may be right, but after sunderland have spent over 17 million on very average players, he should have kept his comments to himself cause it just makes him look like a muppet. He must be after the north east big mouth chairman title after freddie left the toon. he really isn't making any friends in the league.

these comments on the loan system are crazy. this system is very good, look at the english players that have been on loan in there teens and early 20's and now play for the national team. (Beckham, Defoe, Terry, Ashley Cole ust to name a few). it is a vital part of the development of these players, and could mean that they dont progress to the level they have the potential to.

It's funny that Mr Quinn is saying portsmouth are paying above odds for a player when Sunderland themselves offered the same amount of money to sign David Nugent who later went on to pick Portsmouth. hmmm sour grapes anyone?

Sounds like the toys are out of the pram because no one wants to sign for Sunderland and they are being forced to shell out on poor signings. They have spent alot.... on rejects. Still i suppose attempting to show willing will put bums on seats but its the championship for the mackems again next season. At least with Derby in the Prem this year they may finish second bottom??

lewis price is another quantity player for derby NOT a quality player. I have seen him at portman road playing for ipswich and i can quite happily say, good ridance. Hes your problem now derby! Oh and another problem i have is that derby are splashing 20 million on upgrades when really they should be spending that money on class players, there are plenty unsung quality players coming into the premiership for 3 or 4 million each 5 great players would put pressure on the rest of the premiership and even put in a season compatible to reading did last year. Oh well sorry derby fans but you will play in the championship again after this season.

I think quite a few people are right in there comments on this page. Firstly I believe all preimership clubs are paying well over the odds not just Pompey and West Ham, I think with the added money this year there was never any doubt player prices would hit an all time high.

Have Pompey paid too much for Nuggent, will Freddie be good for the Hammers and will Richardson be good for Sunderland. The answer to all of these is wait until the end of the season and see Nuggent coud score 15+ goals, Freddie might play the whole season un-injured and Richardson might win his England place back who knows.

I think Quinn does raise some good points but he is also one of the contributing factors in the rising prices as he is paying them too. I also think that he is right in the manager should run the team and pick the player to be purchased. But I again find it hypocrititcal that he say about chairman should be on the admin side yet he's in the paper forcing his views on everyone.

There is no such thing as ' paying over the odds ' ...you either pay the price asked ...and thus agree the player is worth that ... or you don't pay it and do without that player and buy a cheaper option - simple as ....
