Asian Cup Iraq | Saudi Arabia
comment on the article
Iraq's players celebrate their famous victory in Kuala Lumpur

Iraq caused a major upset in the semi-finals of the Asian Cup by knocking out South Korea on penalties.

The Koreans were held to a goalless draw for the second successive game and missed out on a place in the final as Iraq won the shootout 4-3.

In the other match Saudi Arabia ended Japan's bid for a third straight Asian Cup title.

Malek Maaz did the damage for the Saudis, scoring twice in a 3-2 win to send them into the final.

Give your thoughts on these matches and your prediction for the final.

Success has come when the Iraqis of all sects(Sunni,Shia,Kurds,Turks) joined together. This is where politicians are lagging, they & the people who wants to devide the country should learn what is the meaning of unity.

How I wish all Iraqis will come to appreciate this great accomplishment by their national team and put aside all their differences so Iraq could enjoy more of the joy that comes with winning footabll games and tournaments, Kudos to all the players and management team.

The Captain Younos's should choose his words carefully or would he prefer to go back to the old way the football team was run by Saddam's son? Where systematic beatings and imprisonment of the underachieving football team was common place, yea right I'm sure you would, keep your mouth shut and keep politics out of sport, it's not needed

I am so proud of the Iraqi team and all the supporting staff. It makes us all feel humble and shows us what great spirit and belief can achieve. I just hope something really positive comes out of this and the Iraqi people can live in peace and harmony. The politicians have been given the perfect opportunity to use this as a platform to lift the stricken country out of the mire it finds itself. The politicians in Iraq should cancel their needless and undeserved holiday for the whole month of August and get down to some serious work to get rid off the unwanted elements of corruption and suicide bombers. Well done Iraq - keep the momentum going.

Well, the FIFA Confederations Cup South Africa 2009 will be full of good matches in the first round. It is very easy to group everything now that we have 5 qualified teams: South Africa (host nation), Italy (World Champions), Brazil (South American champion), United States (North American champion), and Iraq (Asian champion). For the sake of the presentation, we will say the European champions are Holland, the African champions are Cameroon, and the Oceanian champions are New Zealand. There are a few rules FIFA uses to group teams in the tournament. This are the rules from the most important to least:

1-The host nation and world champions always gets seeded separetly. (Top seeds)

2-The European champions and South American champions gets seeded separately. (Second seeds)

3-No 2 teams from the same continent can be seeded in the same group in round 1. (Third seeds)

4-In the event that Italy also win the EuroCup then the runner-up in the World Cup will take the place (France) so there will be 2 European teams regardless.

5-In the case that South Africa become African champions then the spot will be given to the runner-up the in African Cup of Nations.

With those rules in mind the groups are looking like this:

Group A: South Africa , Holland, ?, ?
Group B: Italy , Brazil , Cameroon, ?

Now we have USA, Iraq, and New Zealand as left overs. Since Group B is obviously stronger then Group A at the momment, it would make more sense to put the strongest nations from the left-over 3 (USA and Iraq) in the weaker group and have New Zealand in the stronger group to even it out. Now the groups look like this:

Group A: South Africa , Holland, United States, Iraq

Group B: Italy , Brazil , Cameroon, New Zealand

So there it is. Everything makes sense. We have 3 great matches brewing in 2 years:

Italy vs Brazil: Only one word can define this one....REMATCH!!!!

USA vs Iraq: do I need to say anything

South Africa vs Euro Champions; For the sake of seeing the improvement in the team.

So what does everyone think?
