Latest rumour is that Joey Barton has broken a bone in his foot! Does anyone have any news on this?

Injuries do actually happen at all football clubs.

Really? Thanks for enlightening us.

For whatever reason Newcastle have had bigger injury problems than most over the past few seasons, it gets very frustrating and would be hard for any fan not to moan about if it kept happening at their club.

And we don't think we have a God-given right to win a trophy each season. Nor do we think we would have won one without the injuries, I've never heard one Newcastle fan claim that. It surprises me how much everyone else seems to think they know about our club though.

dont you think it is a bit harsh that people are saying that he should be injured for longer? and that he should have broken more than his foot? i mean he is a thug to be fair and he has done a LOT wrong in his career but wishing somebody injured is just wrong, and the people saying that newcastle dont have an injury curse, well which other team in the premiership last season had to play 11 different left backs? NONE! and had 2 of their 3 best strikers injured for almost a whole season, NONE!

As a city fan it would be all too easy to say HAHA but then again i think about all the good hes done for us, mind he did want us to pay him an extra 300k when he didnt deserve it at the end which newcastle paid and has a major behavioural problem at the moment and past few years so ....HAHAHA

Barton was well within his right to ask for the 300k loyalty bonus. It was in his contract that he would get it, which was agreed by Man City. The club were the ones in the wrong there; it's not uncommon for players to get loyalty bonuses and they were just dragging their feet for as long as possible. I would guess that was because in the end they didn't actually want him to leave.

I also think the City supporters should be a little easier on him. Yes he has had some major behavioural issues but some of you seem to be ignoring the fact that he, along with Richard Dunne, have been the backbone of your team in recent seasons. Barton was even your top scorer and top assist maker.

Good luck for next season.

I agree that it is probably a little harsh to wish harm upon another human being, but I think the overall sentiment is that the Premiership would be a better place without the likes of Joey Barton. In a similar sense to Craig Bellamy, it annoys me that another of the top flight clubs have given him yet another chance. It's quite sickening actually. When he made the comments about Gerard & Lampard's books after the WC even I found it a little funny, but the guy is just an obnoxious, arrogant, self indulgant thug who deserves no place among one of the greatest leagues world football has to offer.

Big Sam, I hope you know what you're doing...

But to reiterate, no I wouldn't wish him any harm, but a nice spell in prison for the assault on Dabo would certainly bring a smile to my face.

I am a city fan but unlike many of the other fans i was not to sorry to see barton go. In response to the statistic that he was our top goal scorer and assist maker last season although this may sound impressive, remember our joey barton finished with 7 goals last season in all competitions. This was in 38 starts and for an attacking midfielder i find this simply not good enough. (I am aware of the irony that as a city fan i am saying this even though we set the record for least goals scored at home in a season.) Most of the posts i have read have not mentioned his selfishness in front of goal (which could be forgiven if he'd scored), and his penalty miss near the end of the season.

Personally, i believe that it was a little rich asking for a 300k loyalty bonus despite his transfer requests, stalling over contract extensions and attacking teammates. We must remember that this is not his first disciplinary problem with another teammate as he stubbed out a cigar in the eye of Jamie Tandy a youth player. At least the bonus was refunded by Newcastle.

Joey is also a disruptive influence in the dressing room. Several times falling out with Stuart Pearce and blaming the foreign summer signings, which led to yet more unrest in the dressing room which certainly will not have helped the situation. His disciplinary record also is a concern as he cannot control his well publicised temper. It made City miss a key player during key games.

Another trait which does not seem to escape joey is his arrogance. He clearly thinks he is a better player than he really is. This can be supported by the attack on his teammates, rather than looking at the way he was playing. Joey did have one very impressive season in 05/06 where as a youth player turned professional in his first season did extremely well scoring a few class goals on the way. But he seems to have become bigheaded from this praise and together with his arrogance hav manifested into a player which believes he is bigger than so many clubs.

Therfore i personally, was not sorry to see him go. But i am sorry for him as it is a shame when any player is injured. But i wish joey and newcastle luck especially with the player they have. Who knows he may become as good a player as he thinks he is under better management...

Cityfan, do you know Barton personally? If not then I don't see how you could say he's arrogant. Outspoken maybe, perhaps too outspoken, but in fairness he is often spot on with his opinions. I think the rant he made last season was ill-advised, but he did stress that he wasn't exempt from criticism, so he wasn't just blaming everyone other than himself.

There's is no getting away from the fact he is a very good player. The stats show this. If he can just control his temper he would be a good acquisition for any club.
