Confusion Reigns

League One Leeds United

So from the off shall we get one thing straight; Leeds can and will not be docked 10 points at the start of the new campaign. A number of posts have suggested that because Leeds are in administration and don't have a share in the league, they can enter the league competition but with a point deduction (and variations on a theme whereby Leeds will only record defeats until they receive their share). This is simply not true. As far as I'm aware, only when a team ENTERS administration do they lose 10pts. This point is moot in light of recent reports that suggest that Leeds (or at least Leeds United 2007 Ltd) are not in administration.

The fact that Leeds wasn't purchased through a CVA (as per the Leagues rules) does muddy the water however. The suggestion is the share in the league will not be transferred to the new club but will remain with LUAFC Ltd (or whatever Bates' company was called prior to administration).

Confused?

Too right! Something needs to be sorted out here and I think it's now up to the Football League and the FA to create a clear path for football clubs that enter administration.

With the football season almost upon us, and no end to this is sight, would Leeds be allowed to play their fixtures without the "golden ticket"? The FA surely won't give the "golden ticket" if the deal hasn't been done via a CVA. The fallout from other clubs would see to that. But what happens next if it isn't resolved? Would they then have to start from the Northern Conference League? Although I hate Leeds, I DON'T want to see them fold. It's good to have fierce rivalry in football, and if they do fold I'd have to channel all my hatred to Liverpile. Leeds are a big club being screwed by association with Bates.

I think if the players don't get paid very soon leeds may not have any left and therefore they won't be able to play!

This is all so typical of Mr Bates. Nothing is ever simple and in my opinion its not above board somewhere. KPMG too have come out of this looking dodgy. If the FL don't allow the Golden share Leeds surely would have to do an Aldershot and start over outside the League. But who can trust them?

I think, in another life, Bates used to captain a slave ship.

"No matter what people earn, you live your lifestyle to what you receive each month and you can't expect them to put their bodies on the line when they're not getting paid."

So says Professional Footballers' Association representative Mick McGuire.

Excuse me I didn't think they were in Iraq or Afghanistan but, just playing football.

It's about time the FA accepted some of the blame for prostituting the Football League out to the highest bidder.
We are now in a position where results are measured in Sterling, Dollars and Rubles (not necessarily in that order) rather than cups and titles.
Instead of wasting resource trying to turn football into polo they should have concentrated on what was happening and introduced wage caps or some such playing field-leveller. There are clubs buying players now with no intention of ever fielding them - just to ensure no other club has them.
Clubs are forced to gamble their future for the chance to win anything BECAUSE of the state the FA has allowed the game to get into.

I rather like Leeds and I remember reading a few days ago on this forum that Leeds fans thought they were going to run away with League One, scoring hatfuls of goals and setting records in the process.

Does anyone seriously think that they can finish in the top 10 of that league (providing they can take part at all)?

Surely they are going to play against teams with better players, better managers, better spirit and who will up their games against Leeds just because of the name and its history.

And could someone tell me who agreed to sell to Bates in the 1st place? Whoever that is have a lot to answer for.
