The reason he wants to leave Utd is to play regularly in his favoured position in the centre of defence which he has no chance of doing at Utd and only slightly more chance at Liverpool (Liverpool fans I know would prefer Carragher and Agger). So it seems he's being very badly advised by his agent, who probably just wants a transfer so he can make money out of the player.
