Beckham's Galaxy mission

MLS LA Galaxy
comment on the article

David Beckham got his first taste of Los Angeles Galaxy in the flesh on Tuesday.

It did not make for good viewing as they were well beaten by Mexican side Tigres in a friendly.

Did you see the game? If so what were your views on Beckham's new team-mates?

"clearly u support LA galaxy, and your a glory hunter, thinking beckham will come along and the sun will shine on ur club. well there are words for deluded people like you, such words are banned on this board.

if u think your getting a WORLD CLASS player, u carry on thinking that, the rest of us will MARVEL at world class talent here in EUROPE."

Ahem, you are wrong on a few counts:

1) I am not a Galaxy fan as I prefer to watch Prem football instead of driving 1/2 hour each way and the other hassles to watch a lower standard of the game.

2) "Glory Hunter" - I guess I should stop supporting Leeds United after 33 years then, eh?

3) I don't believe any player can single handedly carry a team the wasy you have suggested David Beckham should have carried England.

Any comments after his winning free kick and laying on the second goal during his first game with meaningful minutes?

Frankly, I don't know why I bother to respond to you.

zidane captained the way that he should have, to address your point about beckhams captaincy.

one free kick and an assist doesn't make him world class by any means, please stop sucking up to the media darling, why not try and back up true world class talents like gerrard.

Gerrard - surely you jest?

While playing some outstanding games for Liverpool and yes, singlehandedly winning them two trophies - Champions League and Fa Cup, albeit on penalties, the man has failed to show up when playing for England.

Worl class should mean performing at an international level against the best of the world to me. Other opinions may differ.

At the end of the day, I agree DB is not the best footballer in the world and may not be in the top 30, but he is an asset to the Galaxy and MLS.

While their may be others who are better footballers, I challenge anyone to name a player at his playing level or higher that could capture the attention that he has done. For those of you who are not in North America, I humbly suggest that you are ignorant of this aspect. People I talk to in offices, at the parks and on the street that knew nothing about professional soccer in North America are suddenly aware of it and are curious about it.

Eat your hearts out if you must.

He was immense the other night against DC. Galaxy looked a different team.

Another masterclass coming up tonight, even half fit and on a artificial pitch.

will his next "masterclass" come when he faces the mighty local girls under 11s team cold war kid?Youve got to love our "becks",the most "famous footballer in the world dont you know",giving "masterclasses" according to all-knowlegable friends like cold war kid in the feted MLS.What a pity what he gave when up against a real opponent of quality and ability when the genuine greats come out to play such as brazil 02,portugal 04 or portugal 06 was about as far from a "masterclass" as one could possibly get.The only "masterclass" Becks provided when he had defenders of genuine quality to face him was how to get found out.A masterclass in vindicating those that always knew he was an extremely avearge and limited player.

"Becks"-looks just swell in the MLS or against trinidad or a firls team.

"becks"-looks distinctly average and irrlevant against a real top quality opponent,a portugal,a brazil,an argentina, any club madrid has come up against in 4 seasons of cl failure with him in their side.

dwight, maybe you should reach for medication?

Tis whole thread is about what DB will do for the Galaxy.

Please note:

1) Not what he will do for world peace,
2) Not what he will do for space exploration,
3) Not what he will do for the British government,
4) Not what he will do to give some posters here some inteligence,

So what he did last year, three years ago, five years ago, etc., etc., is irrelevant.

As for the quality of MLS being less than to your liking, well that is teh point isn't it? He will raise the level.

Let's stick to the topic, if you are able.

Yeah i was talking about Becks in MLS. I don't mind the Dwight rant as he can argue his point well, usually.

Silly question but did you watch the LA NY game last night? Great game, not the best defending though.

LA have been very unlucky with injuries at the back and it cost them last night. Still i thought they were very unlucky not to get at least a point.

Altidore looks a big find for the US, I was very impressed with him.

I only saw the end of the first half and first half highlights. Will catch some more later today.

Altidore had a good U21 world cup for USA, did you see any?

No, I've only seen his recent NY games.

Dwight, how can possibly blame beckham for RM failing in the CL. I seem to recall them having one of Europes worst defences and beckham is no defender.

i seem to recall them winning the european cup the year before he got there in 2002.Also in 2000 infact.During these past 4 seasons, they havent threatened once in the CL,even getting bullied by arsenals kids.Explain that one away when they weere so lucky to have the "worlds most famous footballer" in their ranks whom they were without before when they were struggling to sustained la liga and champions league domination.
