Stage 6

I hope Vino and Kloden are OK for today, if so I expect they'll sit tight in the peloton and save as much energy as possible. It's bad enough that Vino lost time and got injured (I hope not too seriously), but he also expended a lot of energy trying to claw back the gap to the peloton after his crash.

I think a breakaway may well succeed today as the peloton and the big names will want to be conserving energy for the upcoming Alps .

Bon chance pour aujourd'hui, Vino!

I'm starting to wonder if Mc Ewen could win the Green Jersey, i tipped him before the tour. Its likely to be a contest between Boonen and Zabel.
Excellent stage win by Boonen today, Wiggins did himself, his team and our country proud. That was a huge gap at one point.

Fantastic effort by Brad. He will suffer today but what a tribute to Tom Simpson - few quid in the bank too.

He must be gutted being caught out with only 4km to go - what with that being his perfect distance too.

Wouldn't want his legs today biggrin

Well, he was hardly going to win in the mountains was he? Seeing as he already had his ticket printed for the bus (Dutch term for the grupetto, or last group of riders, just in case I've confused everyone) it was really his last chance to make his mark on the race.

If you ask me, Wiggins' break was a typical British heroic failure. Sure, I know he was doing it for the publicity, etc. but if he had waited, say, 10km before the breakaway, he might have made it in first place and got a lot MORE publicity.....

Bah miserable sod Novski. Why does everyone think that all these things are fully planned? I'm sure he wanted a few people to go with him. Before what breakaway?

You have to react to situations. I'd doubt if anyone would be willing give up a substantial lead to go back to the peloton. Good on any rider for giving it a go.

It's Bastille Day. It could also be Moreau's too I reckon.
This year will be his best and probaly last chance to win the Tour overall or get a podium in Paris. With the pre-race favourites flagging, it could well be a Frenchman in yellow on the Champs Ellysee.

And of course, there's always young Master Cantador!

Anybody remember prologue-specialist Thierry Marie's 230km solo break to win the 1991 stage to Le Havre?

Oh, for the days before team radios! Anybody think Wiggins might have made it if the peloton hadn't been able to keep tabs on him so accurately?

No. I just think that the peleton would have chased much harder, much earlier.

Well no, the peloton even at 50km to go could have shut him down quicker than they did. They would have brought it together again anyway as they the sprinters teams were looking for a win.
