if you ask people outside of the UK nearly all and espacially in the states, peouple will say that Kessler is the better boxer and Joe Calzaghe is over rated... thats just a fact..... And another fact is that JC has been to much of a chicken to fight Kessler in the last 2 years, Kessler and Palle has tried to get this fight on 4 so long now, but every time they tried JC has called out other fighters like Manfredo a reality star, thats just a joke, he only pick boxers that he knows he can win against.... And he only took this fight cause he was scared of being called a chicken.. but i predict that he will chicken out once again with a hand injurie... deep in Calzaghe´s heart he knows that he will loose this fight......

Well said Robzaba - let's stick to debating things based on facts, from which opinions can be formed.
I posted yesterday putting a few facts out there about JC's recent career and basing my opinions on those facts. Does anyone have any well-informed responses?

Hi Scouse,

I don't think JC will tire, he's always in excellent condition, and yes he does seem to do well in the biggies. For Kessler, his best plan is to go to the body early and mid-fight perhaps the KO big right... I think they both have excellent though different skills, and for me it's hard to see Kessler out-punching Calzaghe in terms of number of punches. But he is a tough cookie and won't go down, I'm sure. So, for me it has to Calzaghe on a close points decision...

(I sometimes think the Calzaghe detractors will simply never concede he's a better boxer, even if he wins his next 3 or 4 fights against Kessler, Taylor, Hopkins or whoever... smiley)

Cheers, Rob

I'm just frustrated that Frank Warren has taken so long over possible opponents for Joe.
The dates have slipped from July to September to November!?
Funny how Frank recently criticised Hatton in his "News Of The World" collumn for fighting twice a year and yet Joe has fought just twice in 18 months!?
At 35, JC has not got much time to waste at all. If you're a fan of Calzaghe, you get the feeling that he could still beat Taylor, Wright, Tarver, Woods etc if he fights them in the next 18 months.
I'm not looking past Kessler but I just get increasingly frustrated with Warren and how I feel he is reducing Joe to maybe 1 more "defining" fight as opposed to 3 which is what he deserves.

Hi MarlonZ,

I think we're all in complete agreement with that, simply not fighting often enough - and goes for too many fighters these days, both sides of the pond I'm afraid - and JC doesn't have time to wait it out...

I remember that Ali at the beginning of his career fought almost once a month... that's fitness and real ambition for you...

Hey Rob.
Yes I seem to think at one stretch Ali, (or Clay as it probably was at that stage) only had 3 weeks between fights!!?
I agree what you said about too many other high profile boxers fighting so in-frequently. It's just that I really can't see how JC is going to get the other big name fights after and assuming he beats Kessler (which, barring hand/wrist injury I think he will). He generally has a warm-down/tune-up fight after a biggie. How long does he have left then?
He badly needs one more "American" scalp IMO to cement his legacy. Since the Lacy fight, I really don't think Warren has pulled out all the stops to ensure this.!! doh

undeafet in nearly 20 years at all levels of boxing, 20 title defences, six or seven former world champions beaten, all the so called big names refusing to fight him.fought lacy and landed not threw landed with over 1,000 punches in 12 rounds
anyone who doesnt think that jc is a truly great fighter needs his head examining.if he was american they would be talking him up all over the world and if he was english he would be talked up in britain.
as for stay at home at the end of the day he is the champion and the others should try to take his title thats the privilage of being the champ.
i have no doubt he will beat kessler or anyone else they put in front of him.

I think that Frank Warren is soley responsible for affecting the wonderful legacy Joe could have had. I know Joe and I find it unbeleivable that he has never got to fight those big fights. Look at what Hatton has done since he left Frank 'protect my bank blance' Warren.

In recent years and looking at what has happened in other fights Joe could have finished the careers of RJJ, Johnson, Tarver and B Hop. His CV would have been incredible and we would talk universally about him being a true Hall of Famer. Instead Warren follows up the like of Lacey with Bika....... Three or so fights left Frank get Joe the names he deserves!!!

Afternoon all,
I have seen Kessler's last two fights live on telly in Denmark and of course being a Dane myself, can't help being a bit biased. As I see it Calzaghe has done his best to avoid this encounter, but the outcome was always there for all to see unless Calzaghe retired. Now that the fight is on, I'm afraid that Kessler will wipe the floor with Calzaghe and give him such a hiding that JC WILL retire after this fight. Regardless of the impending loss, JC will become/is a legend for what he has achieved in the sport.

As I said at the beginning, I am biased but Kessler is a boxer to be feared not just respected.

Marc

You have said exactly what I would have Doc, so nothing else to add, except "why can't other people see this reality". Kessler to win TKO.
