Hamilton's homecoming

Formula One
comment on the article

After taking the world by storm, this weekend Lewis Hamilton faces probably his biggest test so far - carrying the weight of home expectation in the British Grand Prix at Silverstone. Can he keep up his remarkable record of podium finishes, or has something got to give some time? Are you worried that the hype is getting too much? Is all the focus on Hamilton going to bring out the best in Fernando Alonso? Are Ferrari's early season blips ironed out and are they ready to start punching their weight again? Your views please....

Been to numerous races back to the days of Senna. I have to admit, Lewis is definitely a gentleman as well as a top notch driver. I agree there is too much hype in this case by the media, he is still developing and on his own will dominate the scene. He doesn't need any help as he clearly calculates any errors and learns by them. Being a fan of Ferrari was over the moon with British GP result. Great race whover won. Good luck to him and look forward to seeing some good scraps this year.

You always know when someone is biased and not, as they pretend, some knowledgeble person, when they stick in silly remarks about Jensen Button.
To get away from this silliness now, it does seem that, as I commented on last week, Honda have discovered their pig of a car runs better on a heavier fuel load as they went with a 1 stop strategy this week after opting to start last week's race with a heavier fuel load than anyone else. It seems to be worth about four places per race but it still leaves them in no mans land.

9 podiums in 9 races is a tremendous record for a rookie - it's still quite possible for Lewis to win the championship yknow.

Is Mr Alonso still blethering on about bias by the way? :D

Many detractors point to Hamilton being in the best car, is it really better than the F2007?

Anyway, if Hamilton has got the best car, how come he's making a better fist of it than the only WDC still racing?

erm

Hamilton has the best car, then what's Alonso's excuse?

How many series, where the competitors have equal equipment has he won in?

All those intent in slating Hamilton should wait and see how he does next year when Traction Control goes.

So this is the best ever start to a rookie season by a country mile, 9 races 9 podiums, 2 of which were impressive wins, and leading the championship by 12 points over his double world champion team mate, most people would recognize how brilliant an achievement this is! Oh wait, he is English, and due to this we must shoot him down. Arguably the brightest young sportsman we have, yet he is still a failure!!

To all those idiots who criticize LH, get a life, and actually show some support!

Hamilton started well; still got points and a podium finish; minor error in the pits, acknowledged fully. Now one interesting point:
post-race more commentators seem to buy-in to
the theory that Hamilton captured that pole based upon a light fuel load.
Overall the issue going forward is that, clearly now, Ferrari have their groove back!
What will McLaren do to respond?

I would not criticize LH for today's race after all he only finished 35 seconds behind FA on third position, great result for a rookie.

I think the pressure got him a bit and that was noticeable on his first pitt stop but made no other mistakes and Ferrari was in a different class today and third place was the best he could do RD said after the race

It certainly raises the question if he will stand the pressure if KR and FA further reduce the difference in points over the next 3 races.

Expect FA and KR to raise their game as the season reaches the decisive races

"You talk about having a better car and others beating LH at F2"

GP2...Nico Rosberg is in F1, or hadn't you noticed? Believe he won the 2005 GP2 Championship and finished ahead of Hamilton in the 2004 F3 Championship. Robert Kubica also competed alongside Hamilton, your micro-computers might show he currently drives for the BMW-Sauber F1 team.

"But if those guys were so good where are they now. Ron D could have other guys from a young age but there is no certainty they will make it to F1".

Ron was only assured of Hamilton's signature because Hamilton pressed him into signing him at age 10 (although Tony Delahunty has a different take on the matter - "It's a famous tale isn't it, how 10-year-old Lewis approached Ron at that Autosport awards do? But I've an inkling that the definitive meeting between the pair was in the pits at Spa a few years later when he and Andrew won their classes in the Champions of the Future series which was on telly and was backed by McLaren. It was part of their prize to go to the Belgian Grand Prix and to me, that's when Ron fell in love with Lewis and decided to back him."), other drivers move into F1 in the open market, often after a test driver role.
