A SCHEDULING APOLOGY

comment on the article

You may have noticed that today we have scheduled 5 of the 8 Singles matches to all start at the same time 11:00am.

This will of course mean that you will have to make a choice and decide which of the 5 matches you wish to watch. However if you are lucky enough to have 4 sets of eyeballs like my uncle rupert, this will make viewing a little easier.

No rain is forecast today and so perhaps we should have used a little thought and rearranged the matches so that they run concurrently but after all you must understand that this is a private members club and as such we'll do what we like.

By way of compensation we have scheduled an invitation match on court no1 for you all to watch when you arrive home from work.

Tip top and Tally ho.

They had very little choice. Do you really want a tournament that goes on and on and on and ... (God it's like that film Groundhog Day)!

That's the best message I've seen on here for yonks! Spot on. Why they couldn't have done this several days earlier (when the weather forecast was far worse than today) beggars belief.

However, putting an invitation match on Court One with the huge backlog in "real" events is totally taking the p@@s I agree.

Maacaogl obviously has no sense of humour ;o).

Is it the best sensible message you've seen on here for ages or a joke? Your note is contradictory in that.

I think there's a load of moaning going on about a problem that originates with precipitaion from rain clouds onto the court, necessitating stoppages. Only one party has done anything positive about this apart from moan; the All England club, who have commissioned a roof that finally can be made that is consistent with the needs of the grass and without making it an "indoor" stadium.

The invitation match will take place after all the scheduled singles matches have completed. Am I to assume you'd rather Nadal and Youzhny get moved from an 11am start on court two to a 5pm start on court one, and go off for rain after half a set?. That would make a massive amount of sense. doh

And mac's reply had considerably more humour in in it than the original post.

Why didn't the luvvies play on Sunday or would that have disrupted the party goers.
As an aside I understand that the attendance has fallen this year, I'm not surprised.

remembering the last final that took place on a monday if i was a player aiming for a final place i'd want to play in an atmosphere like that...colour, cheering etc. not the predictable atmosphere to be expected with a sunday final!

Much has been said about Wimby not playing on Sunday, I together with many others, feel they should have done. I personally think that Rafa came off as one of the worst, he & Soderling came on & off court 9 times. Then, as a reward for getting through, he gets scheduled to play on the 'Graveyard' court, No.2. Obviously the 2 ladies matches (not top seeds) warrant Centre Court, Rafa is only WORLD No.2 after all! It can only be a punishment for daring to critize the all hallowed Wimbledon stuff shirts who in their own words, stated "
"but after all you must understand that this is a private members club and as such we'll do what we like" doesn't that say it all?

Where was the foresight of the organisers in consulting weather forecasts for the following Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday, and then deciding on a Sunday play? It was no secret that the weather was going to be poor: even Andrew Castle, on the first day of Wimbledon, announced he was worried whether Wimbledon would get done in two weeks, based on the two week weather forecast. Surely some play on the Peoples Sunday would have been better than none. And here's another thing: if people in
Wimbledon don't like the crowds, well, the tournament makes the place famous, and adds to their house prices: so, if you don't like it, move.

Obviosly Mr Jarrett is inept at scheduling!

Where are the number 2 seeds in the mens doubles playing tommorrow?

Sack this man before he ruins Wimbledon forever!
