The man Hamilton should fear

Kimi Raikkonen's victory in the French Grand Prix suggested the Ferrari driver may finally have surmounted his early season problems and be ready to mount a world title assault.

Read our assessment of Raikkonen's season news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/mot... and tell us whether you think he is now Lewis Hamilton's most dangerous rival.

Tires do play a major role nowadays in F1. Last season Renault's Pat Symonds was quoted as saying that "Tires would determine the championship this season". Even Kimi said this season that Alonso was suffering due to the switch from Michelin to Bridgestone.

But to Hamilton's credit he has not made a mistake. The rest of the drivers have had there share of mistakes and bad luck this season. Specially both the drivers of Ferrari. Kimi suffered during the Spanish GP and Massa in the season's opener. Alonso had his share @ Magny Cours. However, Hamilton has been lucky. His crash @ Monaco was during the Practice session and he had an engine change during the Friday practice of the US GP. If both of the events had taken place on Saturdays or Sundays, things would have been quite different.

One has to admit it that Hamilton wouldn't have impressed this much if he was driving for any other team but McLaren and Ferrari. But he has proved it that he deserves to be @ McLaren. People might say that he is lucky to find the right car in his debut season but the fact is he is making the most out of the car.

This season it's going to get really interesting. For both of his championships Alonso simply defended his points tally and in both seasons they were pretty comfortable. So we need to see if he really has what it takes to cut down Lewis's advantage this season. Hope he doesn't get it from an Engine failure of Lewis.

About the apparent resurgence of Ferrari, we'll have to wait until the British GP to see if the Scudeira really has the advantage over McLaren.

Yes i have to agree Kimi is fast and the way he drives when the Ferrari is set up well gives the impression he could blow everyone off the track but the trouble is he does make unforced errors excuse the Wimbledon pun and needs more consistency Massa seems more consistent but not as fast Lewis could be the one in the future to challenge the Mansell Mania only time will tell

Ferrari did perform well on Sunday we all agree and Kimi outplayed Massa for the 1st time this season. However, to say Ferrari is back to me is an overstatement. We mustn't forget that LH was second on the grid and he just lost pole position to Massa, which as events were unfolding on Saturday he logically should have had. Moreso, McLaren's tactics on Sunday were horrible. He should have attacked Massa at the grid but tried to consolidate his second position and was surprised by Kimi. Then, the 3 stop strategy still baffles me! From 6 seconds behind the Ferraris, he ended about 30 seconds after their strategy played out. So, come Silverstone, I think with the determination and push from the crowd, LH will take pole and nail the race, first part of the championship and haters alike.

I can see this ping-ponging about Hamilton will go on forever.

Face it, this guy is the first rookie EVER, to step into a Formula One car and go charging off into the distance like that. 8 consecutive podiums, 2 wins, leading his nearest rival - a freshly-minted double world champion - in the points by 14! A rookie, for God's sake! He has taken to it like a duck to water. And yes, I've heard, read all the caveats. People behave as if other rookies to F1 come from bicycle class, straight into the F1 circus.

These guys all have long apprenticeships. By the time they get to their dream cockpit, they know the works; enough to get that precious licence to drive. Otherwise, they would not get near even to the so-called "slow" cars. When a Spyker goes past at close quarters, "slow" it isn't. You realise that just to be driving it, requires some considerable skill. So saying Hamilton is somehow "lucky", is damning him with faint praise; a deprecation of his remarkable skill. If he's just "lucky", pity Alonso. What will happen to him when Hamilton is not being just "lucky"?

I would almost like to see Hamilton in one of the "lesser" cars, just so he can put out of joint, the noses of the carpers. Even if he gets pipped at Silverstone, it won't change the measure of his remarkable talents by one iota.

The guy is good. Live with it.

No one can say LH is crap without being ignorant.

I would lke to see LH in the wett as well at Spa later in the year.

People may not believe this but i met LH when he was about 11 still doing karting. It was for a magazine article. He is a great driver but all this pressure is stupid.

I dont think he will win at Silverstone too be honest & it will be interesting if the media circus dies down.

Hes a great driver & he is bringng interest into the sport again but wouldnt it of been nice to see him up against Schumacher?

Would it have been good to see Lewis vs MIchael in '07? Meh, maybe but I was never a Schumacher worshipper anyway!

What I do know is that if I was Ron Dennis I wouldn't be too worried about Ferrari just yet, not while Macca are still 1-2 in the drivers championship!

I think Ferrari needs choose between Massa and Kimi, today Massa is most danger rival to Hamilton.
On the other hand it is very interesting see Hamilton pressure on Alonso.

I think Massa is still a better driver than Kimi. So what if he won a couple of races one through luck of traffic. Massa will still show him up before the season is over. Good driver but highly over rated and over paid.

not so sure if LH is making most of that macca, or he is skilled or he is lucky to be in a good car. but end of the day i feel being a champion is totally a diffrent thing and cannot be used as a basis to determine a skill of a driver. everybody in this site know how that 14 point lead was made up. all this comparing and trying to reasoning it just simple silly. try to see each driver and see their skills.
