I’m not sure if it is the BBC’s coverage or the commentary made by some of commentators which ignite these sorts of comments. But some spectators feel that they have a licence to make remarks. Like it or not Serena & Venus Williams are world class athletes.

Continually criticism from day one has been unjustified, unfair and some comments made without foundation. From the moment the Williams sisters made their debut. Issues where raised about the way their father trained them, of their poor background, their physical appearance, the way they hit the ball, the amount of matches they play, and to add insult to injury cruel comments made about their parents. I could list a long line of players who seemed to have faked injury, but I have no proof and would not make a statement by just assuming.

I wonder if the girls where white, not broken any world records and had names like Tim Henman or Andy & Jamie Murray would we then LIKE them! And would we talk about their brilliant skills as athletes. Let’s not forget the fact that Tennis is a sport, we should watch enjoying that fact.

This thread now needs a footnote. Great to see Henin and Venus win.

Shame about Serena, and shame that she's made more enemies than friends on this Wimbledon trip.

So the great serena goes out to Henin, and hardly a limp in sight. I say hardly because when she lost a few tight points as the game reached the end what did we see? a fake grimace here and a sharp grasp of her leg there gave the impression of her injury playing up. Wasn't too slow racing to those little drop shots of henins was she. She's an amazing player and doesn't need to play these games, we all have to lose sometimes serena.

Manufemalefan: come off it, don't try to debar people from criticising black athletes just because of their colour and past trophies. If Serena cheated, let's hear it loud and clear, just like we hear it about whiteys.

Serena is simply the best in female tennis, without her there won't be many reasons to watch female tennis, especially now that there are so few really good players. Stop hating her and enjoy her game, cuz she puts up a darn good show most of the time

I am pretty sure that hitting your leg repeatedly with your Racket! not your hand is not going to be good for you. It is quite clear to me Maganha that you are the ignorent party here because you believe that hitting yourself will make cramp go away!

I have found a few flaws in this article. When the injury struck she was not 4-2 down in the tie break she was 5-6 down in the set and after her medical time out she served aces and unreturnables to take it to the tie break. The rain came on at 4-2 and i have so much respect for her being able to block out the pain and win the match.

Cramps can be an indication of dehydration, which may be caused by heat.
