Stuart Broad

England

Nice easy, repeatable action. Fairly accurate, and able to seam it both ways. Bit nippier than I thought as well. Would be interesting to see him on a track with some more bounce. I'm beginning to see what all the fuss was about.

What say you, fellow 606ers?

Mahmood if I am right bowls with a scrambled seam which doesn't help.It is time he improves as he is what 25 now.

"Future One Day England attack: Stuart Broad, James Anderson, Simon Jones, Andrew Flintoff and Monty Panesar, anyone agree?"

Can't see Jones getting back in there, really. He isn't bowling at the moment.

Plunkett, Sidebottom and Mahmood all might feature.

Mahmood has got his best years ahead of him, Simon Jones, Mike Hussey and plenty others didn't break into their national squads until they were in their late twenties.
As for his scrambled seam, I don't think that is by design! If he cut the bad balls out, the wides, the no-balls, the long hops etc... he could be an awesome bowler, only time (and Allan Donald) will tell...

biggrin

I personally think of Simon Jones as a strike bowler in test cricket. He can be expensive in both forms of the game but in tests he repays it with some unplayable deliveries and a high strike rate.

As for Mahmood - he's 25 and has had a number of opportunities to prove himself and cement a place in the team. There is potential with his stature and pace but his record in the first class game isn't that great, let alone his record in tests and ODIs. I think it would be harsh to blame his inaccuracy on Kevin Shine; I don't think Mahmood has ever been a bowler able to apply pressure by accuracy.

If you want to talk about potential, talk about Stuart Broad - he still has his chances ahead of him and he is 4 years younger than Mahmood. I am inclined to believe he demonstrated the control he is capable of against the West Indies yesterday.

Sorry to go off at a tangent, as this thread is about England bowlers, but does anyone else think that this match raised the first serious question mark over Prior's keeping?

Two not-easy catches dropped standing up and his gloves must make the loudest clang in international cricket when he takes the ball.

"Two not-easy catches dropped standing up"

Standing up though. With catched like this you are usually hoping the ball goes in the gloves as you don't have time to react if the edge is too thick.

Broad has been crap since the 20/20 finals day last year. That was his first decent spell in nearly 11 months.

If he's the future, we're in trouble."

The future's bright, the future's Broad. Isn't it Wibble ...

Finally saw a good performance rather than just promise

Full credit as the lad did not retaliate and bounce Edwards, but cooly went about gathering wickets

I think Collingwood should use his Durham contacts and woo Hamy back into one dayers

Donald will defintly prep him good

Harmision, Flintoff, Panesar, Anderson and Collingwood is a top attack, with Broad in reserve
