Wimbledon - day six

comment on the article
Rafael Nadal

The forecast at Wimbledon today is pretty gloomy but if the rain stays away second seed Rafael Nadal will attempt to reach the second week when he takes on Robin Soderling in the third round.

Opening proceedings is defending women's champion Amelie Mauresmo, who plays Italian Mara Santangelo.

Court One's opening match is Maria Sharapova against Ai Sugiyama.

Former champion Sharapova will be followed on court by popular 10th seed Marcos Baghdatis, who takes on former runner-up David Nalbandian.

The last match pits 20-year-old Serbian fourth seed Novak Djokovic against Nicolas Kiefer of Germany.

Who do you think will make it through? Give your thoughts as the day progresses.

Should replace the mole with a duck, much more apt.

Oh and if he can slope off early from the tennis to watch a cricket match, the word expendable springs to mind...

It hasn't rained here for a while, I think Rafa should come and play his match in my back garden. However, strict security frisks will be necessary!!!

Sugiyama was rightly fuming.
Even if it were looking like i was going to lose, i would want to play my opponent in decent conditions, especially if i'm trying to break and the rain's stopping me from getting near any serves.
Sugi should've walked off - sod the crowd, it's her contest.

I can't understand why the organisers decided not to play on the middle Sunday this year. The forecast for today is not good at all, and there is a real risk of going into Tuesday with some 3rd round matches still unfinished. For those on the women's side that would mean some of them potentially having to play every day between now and Saturday. Why run the risk when we could have had a full afternoon's play yesterday?

Rafa is going to really struggle with Soderling, the swede is quality on grass. Haas dropping out is a massive bonus for Fed.

Disgusted that Wimbledon authorities thought it best not to have any play yesterday. And in a country where it's light at 4am in the summer, how about getting some doubles and junior matches underway at 8am for Pete's sake, just to get things moving.
