Shah takes England to victory

20/20 international England

I thought Shah played well under pressure as England won the second twenty twenty international. It was a fine effort from England to win the match after yesterday's loss. For England bowlers like Sidebottom, Anderson bowled better. For the Westindies Gayle played well. When it was England's turn to bat Prior played quite a few shots, but losing him, and Kp didn't help, along with that one has to add Powell bowled superbly, then it was Shah's chance to shine as he played some good shots to take England to victory in th last over with Mascerenhas giving him able support.

Finally after the defeat in the first match, it was good to see England coming back to win this match.

He cant be expected to carry the batting all the time i agree. I think KP will become suited to the game but without significant practice due to international duties it is very unfair to expect him to mould straight into the game. Im sure he will get it right in that form of the game.

Does it really matter whether KP is any good at 20/20? I can't see that it does.

He is excellent at other forms of the game and 20/20 is far more of a gamble with every ball than test or one day, as long as the team wins who cares who scores the runs?

You're right it doesn't really matter. It's just that he seems ideal for Twenty20.

I agree with englandmad666. This is the problem with central contracts and it affects players in all forms of the game. There is no better way to practice than being out in the middle in a county game. Thats worth a lot more than hours in the nets.

So does Adam Gilchrist, probably even more so but he has never set the world alight at it.

I agree with OldRegret about KP.Anyhow one interesting thing I saw was Powell who just ran in and bowled with real pace and reasonable control but he in the tests he just looked insipid. What a change.

Twenty20 is a completely different game from ODIs and Tests, it's manic, mayhem and there's no real skill to it, just slogging for the crowds amusement.

A good win, I don't think under our last regime we would have won the game - or timed the win so precisely.

I'm still not convinced by Cook, but we'll see on Sunday if he's the real deal.

Would anyone criticising KP drop him for it tho? I wouldnt. I still believe England are wasting an opportunity we have the players with the most twenty20 experience in the world and dont seem to want to use them. My Team for Twenty20 world cup would be more like

Loye
Prior
Maddy
KP
Collingwood
Shah
Flintoff
Mascerenhas/Yardy (excuse my spelling if incorrect I copied it from above)
Chapple (If shows fitness and form during rest of season)
Doshi
Keedy

tommyd1258, I think you're a little premature in dismissing 20/20 as a game with no real skill to it. Many cricket purists take a similar view to you, as they did when the longer form of the one day game (if you get me) became popular.

There is much more to 20/20 than 'just slogging for the crowd's amusement', although the game obviously does favour big hitters who don't need to play themselves in.

Leicestershire and Surrey have been consistently successful at this form of the game, in a number of ways. For example, Surrey's huge win against Sussex last night was built on a reasonable target defended brilliantly by 2 spinners/slow bowlers, including the all time leading wicket-taker so far at this form of the game. Such things suggest that, while this shortest form of the game does have the greatest element of luck to it, it is more than simple bish bash.
