Federer (left) has lost to Safin twice

The forecast for Friday in SW19 doesn't look encouraging with plenty more rain said to be on the way.

If we do get some play, Roger Federer's clash with Marat Safin looks like the pick of the matches. Safin has beaten him twice in the past but is by no means a star on grass, so his challenge to the Swiss could be minimal.

Also on Centre Court, crowds can look forward to appearances by Fernando Gonzalez and Serena Williams.

Although primarily a clay-court player, Juan Carlos Ferrero's match against James Blake could also prove to be quite a decent draw on Court One.

Men's and women's number three seeds Andy Roddick and Jelena Jankovic complete the big names set to entertain in that arena.

Another game that could go the distance is Dmitry Tursunov's meeting with Tommy Haas on Court Two.

Isn't that David Mercer in the commentary box with McEnroe? I'd recognise that voice anywhere - and not in a good way. Too many vodka and cranberries in a smokey Romford club, perhaps?

the commentator is definitely livening up a dull match.

Oh dear! The dreadful Scot's brother is through. Not that anyone takes any notice of the doubles. The only hope we have is that he upstages AM and goes on to have a reasonably successful career while his bro languishes.
