Chris Coleman at Sociedad

Premiership Fulham
comment on the article

Do you think he can get Sociedad back up to La Liga?

Do you think Fulham were right to sack him?

Do you think Lawrie Sanchez can do anything Coleman couldn't do?

good luck to CC. He was unfortunate to get sacked but his reign ran its course. He is one of few managers to have beaten Jose Mourinho in the premership. Have a great reign in spain

He's a good manager. He was unlucky to be sacked as i thought he kept Fulham in the premiership for years.

Coleman's a great guy and probably a good coach, but he has too much going against him to succeed with La Real.
1. He has no idea of Spanish football especially the Spanish second division
2. Real Sociedad are stone broke and players are swarming out of the club ( Mikel Alonso, Xabi Prieto, Rekarte, Garrido etc) Where will he get his squad from for next season?
3. Despite being re-elected last week, the current board are on borrowed time and will be voted out if the club is not 6 points clear at the top in September.
4. He has chosen another Brit as his assistant manager. All succesful foreign managers work with a local man when they get to a club (Wenger, Benitez, Mourinho, Capello, Toshack at Real etc)
5. His immediate boss Salva Iriarte is out of touch with Spanish football and not decisive (tough) enough to sort out the mess at the club.

I'd love Chris to do well, but he's bitten off a lot more than he can chew.

He'll love the city though, Europe's most beautiful hidden gem.

I hope that he does well over there.

However, I am suprised that nobody has mentioned the language barrier that might hinder him!

As far as Im aware the only language he speak other than english, is WELSH.

When you hear the things some managers say, not speaking the language can sometimes be an advantage!!
Not speaking Spanish or Basque is just another area in which he'll be working blind, dependant on other people for info about clubs, players, regulations etc. I fear it's going to be all a bit much for him - but I'd love to be proven wrong

Good for Coleman, he's so much braver than your average Brit. Most Brit players and coaches are terrified of going abroad - afraid of learning a new language (yet Rafa, Wenger, Mourinho, Jol, Cappello, Rikjaard, Sven and dozens more have all managed it). Afraid of failure.

Coleman has more guts than most, and I hope he succeeds in bringing his team back to the top flight.

I have just read Chris Coleman's comments on creating a Real Sociedad with more home grown players. This is a very good move because:

1. It will begin to win over the Real Sociedad fans who almost voted the current adminstration out last Saturday - much of their frustration was around the move away from a Basque identity.

2. Donostia is a proud city and the players will be much more passionate if they are from the Basque country.

Good Luck Mr Col-i-man
