Disgracefull scenes after game at Southgate

comment on the article

During and after the twenty twenty game at Southgate last night between Middlesex and Hampshire, there were disgracefull scenes.

First incident that happened last night was that during the game some theives made their way into the Middlesex players dressing room and they stole some of the players valuables.

Also after the game the players refused to sign autographs for the fans, this was because the players were being shouted at by the fans and it ended up turning personal.

When the Hampshire players got on their coach, some of the fans started to throw stones at the windows of the coach.

I think that these kind of scenes at a game of cricket are totally unacceptable and I think that these fans are a total disgrace to the game of Cricket!

What do people think of these scenes at Southgate last night?

Could they have been prevented?

KwisMoose has correctly identified alcohol abuse as a society problem but then makes an idiot out of himself by blaming it on "Blair and co...and labour voters".

Alcohol is an integral part of British society (hence the difficulties with islamic integration) but if he thinks that a politician can erradicate the associated problems (presumably with new hard-line policies?!) then he is living in cloud cuckoo land.

Maybe he is up there with theoldcoach?? Who doesn't like "university types" for getting drunk, or pakistani fans (all of them?) for being arrogant and condescending?!?!?!

I think (hope!) that theoldcoach is displaying a very ironic sense of humour. Because otherwise he must just be a boorish moron who outside his protected little world would get the kicking he so richly deserves.

It's the kids I feel sorry for...

I agree that lots of the bad behaviour at these events is from non-cricket fans, but the whole point is that we are trying to make the game more accessable.

The Aussie example is where we are trying to get to - lots of cricket fans from all sections of society playing and watching the game together. And with a beer or 5 along the way...

So let's not make a mountain out of every molehill that gets in the way - and if it helps to weed out and discourage the toffee-nosed bigots in the English game then perhaps this cloud has a silver lining after all!

This has been blown up out of all proportion.

There is a statement on the Middx website.

The Hampshire bus had stones thrown at it whilst empty, parked at the back door of the pavilion. The stones were thrown from the cemetery and NOT under the jurisdiction of Middx

this has been a completely mockery
i was one of those so called "chavs" who was at the cricket match and its a load of rubbish what has been written about us. there were a group of around 10 of us who went straight from school to have a laugh and watch some good crikcket.Throughout the game we were chating but all about crikcet and nothin offensive whatsoever. The rest of the crowd was completely silent we were the atmosphere and were unfairly targeted just becuse we made some noise. And for us being chavs well pffft

First of all the stone throwing was nothing to do with us cricket fans but some kids in the cemetry.
Also, our singing was in good humour (asking the players to wave and so on). This is exactly what we paid our money for, the good atmosphere and equally good cricket, even if it was reduced to twelve overs each. People around us were joining in and not once were we told to be quiet.
At the end us kids ran on which is to be expected as we see it on skysports every night.
And yes we are mostly football fans but also love cricket and i can't see anything wrong with singing at probably the only game of cricket we will see all year

Right, listen yeah i was one of those so called "chavs" what gives you the right to call me a chav!! i went to the game with my mates to have a laugh and watch a bit of our favourite sport-cricket. we all came back from cricket training straight to the game and had a bit of a laugh with the playeers. all the fans around us found it amusing and joined in. a few years ago you were complaining about lack of young people in the sport, but when ten of us turn up you say we should be banned for life! you cant have it both ways. you need us in cricket A.) because our money keeps the club going as we bought the new top each Andd...
B.) were going to be the next generation of fans to replace boring fans like yourselves. we wernt involved with the bus incidents nor the thefts. we even had a sing-song with a steward who found it very funny. so please stop coming on here and telling us were bad-for-the-game chavs because were loyal middlesex fans who only get to go to a few games a year and want to make it enjoyable for ourselves and everyone around us as possible!!

Dear goodriddancetraore
My friends and i are not underclass but just loyal middlesex fans trying to have a bit of banter with our cricketing idols.
Yes we were making noise but nearly every fielder we sang to smiled, raised their hat and waved to us. We made the day more enjoyable for ourselves and the players and would appreciate it if you would stop calling us underclass chavs!!!

Not the most intelligent move. As if it was the kids or their parents who were doing the spitting or stone throwing. Absolute bunch of big time Charlies. I waited in the pouring rain to get Shane Warne's autograph at edgbaston and he walked past me and all the others, fag in hand, straight into his private car. Seems like it's a Hampshire culture.
