Blues Set To Sign O'Connor!!!!!!!!!!!

Premiership Birmingham City
comment on the article

Birmingham City have agreed a deal to sign Lokomotiv Moscow striker Garry O'Connor, the Russian club have announced.

Steve Bruce appears to have been successful in his attempts to bring the Scotland international to St Andrews before the weekend after the two clubs reached an accord on a £2.65million fee.

Former Hibernian front man O'Connor will undergo a medical before signing a two-year deal with the newly-promoted Blues.

"Lokomotiv Moscow have come to an agreement with Birmingham City about the transfer of Lokomotiv attacker Garry O'Connor to the English club," Lokomotiv said in a statement on their official website. "The total fee for O'Connor is $5.3million.

"It is expected that after O'Connor will pass his medical tests, he will sign a two year contract with the Birmingham club.

"Lokomotiv FC wishes to thank the striker for his high professionalism, hard work on the field and for the goal in the Russian Cup Final."

O'Connor had been tracked by Premier League clubs Fulham, Everton and Portsmouth, but it is Birmingham who have won the race for his signature.

The 24-year-old ends a 15-month stint in Russia and he is now looking forward to his latest challenge in England.

He said in a message to the Lokomotiv fans published on their website: "Thank you for your support while I was in Lokomotiv.

"I'll never forget the times I spent at our beautiful stadium, the support that I received on and off the field. You have all been great towards me.

"I also hope you understand the reason why I am leaving. There is only one chance in our life to play in the English Premier league - the best league in the world.

"It's a great opportunity for me which I would like to use. I'll support Lokomotiv forever and I hope that someday I'll come back to Russia to play at this beautiful stadium and see all my friends."

Good news seems quite a reasonable price nice to see the blues concluding a deal quickly without hasseling about clauses etc.

he is a good player, and is young, so will only get better. i have no alligence to him but he is an assured finisher, very very strong, with a good first touch, decent turn of pace and very good aerial ability. well done ok

For any Brum fans who haven't seen him play, there's a compilation on Youtube of his goals for Lokomotiv - a few absolute crackers. He'll be a good value signing, especially if you look at Darren Bent's valuation!

tarnisher1, hes a great finisher, and has a better work rate than Scotlands other striker Kris Boyd. I just thought that he could do a bit better than Birmingham, but nonetheless will score goals, possibly the ones which keep you up. Alongside someone like Bendtner he would be brilliant, unfortunately I think Arsenal will have to keep him this year.

i think this will turn out to be one of the best value for money transfers of the summer if o'connor gets enough games. At the start of his career he was always great at holding the ball up and shooting from distance but now he has everything, he has great close control, he is good at headers, he is not afraid to use his left foot and he seems to have added pace to his game. I think off all the great hibs prospects, gary o'connor has the most potential. Hibs have or should i say had a team of players who were all capable of playing in the epl or championship. Watch out for ivan sproule next year if he does join bristol city in the end. I can name a few more hibs players who could make the grade down south who are steven whittaker, david murphy, guillame beuzeulin, ivan sproule, adesellam benjeloun and mouranne zemmama. keep an eye out for some of those players in the future and of course scott brown who is now at celtic along with his former team mate chris killen.

You Brummyzzz have an excellent player in O'Conner. He is potentially the best Scottish player of this generation. This guy has the heart and football brain of a young Kenny Dalgliesh.

I used to watch him at Hibs and was hoping that my other favourites Man City would sign him.

I hope Steve Bruce gives him the right opportunity and plays him straight through the middle in a free-running role.

With the silly prices that are being thrown around these days you really have got an absolute bargain at less that £3 million.

I just hope you have a good playmaker in midfield to get the best out of him.
