Shearer blasts Bellamy

Newcastle United
comment on the article
Shearer would be unhappy at Bellamy returning to Newcastle

Alan Shearer has warned Newcastle boss Sam Allardyce not to bring Craig Bellamy back to his former club.
Allardyce has been linked with a move for Liverpool's 27-year-old striker, who left St James' Park two years ago.

Bellamy had bust-ups with then boss Graeme Souness and also allegedly criticised Newcastle legend Shearer.

Shearer said: "Has no-one learned their lesson about signing him? If only Rafa Benitez had rung me I would have told him exactly what he was like."

Would you like to see Bellamy return to Tyneside?

Mary Poppins needs to get a grip. Ok Bellamy is a bad egg, and I wouldn't be too dissapointed to see him leave Liverpool, but who does Shearer think he is sticking his oar in even now he isn't at Newcastle any more. He's got no business in influencing any transfers. He needs to pipe down.

Not sure what your point was about Giggs? He's highly thought of in the football community.

My point about Shearer is this. He could have gone to Man U and won all the medals under the sun but he chose his hometown club to try and bring them some success. Unfortunately, despite his many goals and high standard of play, he did not achieve the medals. If he had played the same standard at Man U, he would have got some medals.

Le Tissier never won any medals but no one can deny he was a great player also.

It's not medals that makes you a great player. It's how you play and as a striker - the goals you score. As a defender and keeper - the clean sheets you get, etc. And Shearer's goal rate is second to none in the Premiership.

I am not in love with Mr Shearer - well, if you're asking, Jack Bauer actually - I just merely respect what he did for Blackburn, Newcastle and England.

If players are judged on what they won then is Phil Neville a better player than Shearer?

As for the Shearer vs Bellamy scenario, Shearer probably is right in saying bringing Bellamy back would be a bad move for Newcastle but whats it got to do with him? Also people forget that this "ambassador" turned down the chance to be assistant manager just to sit in the comfort of Hansen, Wright etc in the Match of the Day studio.

100% behind you Shearer. Big Sam needs to get some much needed team spirit and Bellamy is just a bad seed! Don't do it Sam, it would be a huge step backward for Newcastle.

I would like to see Bellamy go. He may be fast but he is unpredictable and cannot finish. Loaning out is a better option though. Loan him to a lower side to teach him to finish. He needs less work than Cisse. He doesn't understand offside.

Anyway hes correct to be angry but he is not the manger. Leave RTE commentators slag off football players.

I'm a Newcastle supporter. Not one of those stirrers from Liverpool of ManU.
Shearer is a legend and members of the Toon Army will never forget him.
That said, Shearer has a huge ego and he himself is not blameless when it comes to disrupting team harmony. For instance I feel he sometimes under-mined Bobby Robson.
Bellamy on the other hand was a serial-git at St James' Park, regularly disrupting team harmony. There's no doubting Bellamy's speed and talent, but he doesn't even seem to try to maintain good working relationships with his fellow players.
Bellamy WAS victimised by Graeme Sounness. Sounness was much worse for our club than Bellamy ever was. His style of bullying management disappeared back in the '50s. He played management like he played football in Scotland: rough, dirty tackling, not caring who he injured.
So Bellamy's dismissal from Tyneside was unfair.

Alan Shearer is so respected that his opinions will always be listened to at Newcastle. Perhaps he has over-stepped the mark by interfering with Big Sam's recruiting? But maybe Shearer is right too?

Our team needs harmony.

We've already taken on the risk of Joey Barton. Plus, we've got the on-going sore of that lazy prima donna Keiron Dyer.
At the moment (despite rumours) we already have Owen, Martins, Viduka, and James Milner. We don't need Bellamy.

Let's not take the risk.

Can't belive Shearer is such a self righteous critic of Bellamy after his track record as a player. How many times did he undermine managers while he was a player there? (Gullit, Robson, Souness?)

Lets not forget his 'assault' on Neil Lennon and subsequent refusal to represent England if he was charged by the FA and the fact that he commited the most fouls of any player in the premiership three seasons in a row while he was at NU.

It seems shearer considers himself something of a saint in Newcastle but that didn't stop him from turning them down and raking in the cash at the BBC did it? yet he still thinks he has the right to tell another manager how to do his job and given his popularity with the NU fans this could cause problems for Big Sam.

He should take a job in football or shut up and let players and managers get on with their jobs.

-------------------------

Yes, how many times exactly? Where is the proof this "undermining"? How are you suddenly in the know?

-------------------------

Lets not forget his 'assault' on Neil Lennon

-------------------------

Yes, that was disgraceful, and he should have been punished.

However, if the referee or FA haven't got the balls to charge him, whose fault does it become?

It's still better than attacking team-mates with golf clubs.

Or mouthing off to lower league team coaches and telling them they'll be mowing his garden next week.

Or kung-fu-ing fans for that matter.

Or stamping on Portugese players in crucial World Cup games.

-------------------------

and the fact that he commited the most fouls of any player in the premiership three seasons in a row while he was at NU.

-------------------------

Wow...a physical striker giving away fouls...incredible.

He's not exactly whiter than white, but how many times was he sent off in his career? How many times was he the subject of disciplinary hearings?

He jumped with his elbows - big deal. If the defenders weren't such bloody wimps then it wouldn't matter. It's a physical game - not basketball.

-------------------------

...that didn't stop him from turning them down and raking in the cash at the BBC did it?

-------------------------

When did he turn anybody down? They never offered him anything, and nobody up here feels bitter towards him for becoming a pundit.

-------------------------

yet he still thinks he has the right to tell another manager how to do his job

-------------------------

He's a pundit - i.e. someone who voices his opinion publicly. As an ex-team mate of Bellamy he is better placed to voice an opinion than most.

-------------------------

and given his popularity with the NU fans this could cause problems for Big Sam.

-------------------------

Erm... how? We loved Shearer as a player but we would never give his managerial skills more respect than those of Big Sam, because Shearer hasn't GOT any.

-------------------------

He should take a job in football or shut up and let players and managers get on with their jobs.

-------------------------

So should Andy Gray, Alan Hansen, Mark Lawrenson, Gary Lineker... all successful ex-players
now working as pundits and giving their own, frequently biased, opinions. Why aren't you calling for them too?

As usual, the vitriol is purely because it is Shearer. He had a reputation as a player that ANY club would want, and now because he voices an honest opinion, echoed by most people who support clubs Bellamy has been associated with, people try to vilify him as an interefering busybody with no right to try and remain involved with the club he gave ten years service without any real success.

If you're wanting to have a go at arrogant ex-players, go and make an issue out of Hansen saying Liverpool were "100% certain to win the Champions League". Cretin.
