News Report on Sven and Thaksin Takeover

Ousted PM identifies Eriksson as next Man City's manager

'Manchester City's search for a manager has been further disrupted by an instruction from Thaksin Shinawatra, the club's prospective owner, to explore the possibility of tempting Sven-Goran Eriksson back into English football, the Guardian online reported on Tuesday.

The deposed Thai prime minister wants a high-profile appointment and has preferred Eriksson despite strong reservations within the club and in his own team of headhunters.

In the kind of confused plot that perhaps only City could be capable of, Eriksson is now among the leading candidates to be offered the job if Thaksin's takeover goes through, notwithstanding the misgivings of everyone in the recruitment process bar Thaksin himself.

City have missed out on his first-choice target, Claudio Ranieri, as well as having unsuccessful talks with Didier Deschamps, and Thaksin seems unimpressed by Sevilla's Juande Ramos.

The Guardian reported that Alistair Mackintosh, the City chief executive, has been pinning his hopes on enticing Ramos away from Spain once Sevilla have played in the Copa del Rey final against Getafe on Saturday.

Before then, however, Thaksin hopes to make a formal offer for the club, and if everything goes to plan he believes he will be in a position to make his own call about the next manager.

The mention of Eriksson's name represents a remarkable turnaround given that Thaksin's London-based advisers initially scoffed at the idea of turning to the former England manager.

Thaksin has all but convinced City he can finance his takeover despite an anti-corruption committee in Thailand freezing about ?830m of his fortune. But the club have been without a manager since the final day of last season and pressure is mounting on Mackintosh to make an appointment as soon as possible.'

they say thaskin has to pass the premier leagues test to see if he is a fit person to own a foorball club - isn't this akin to letting a lbind man take a driving test?

Just what a club needs....a tricky Thai as owner and a sex-mad Swede as manager. You have my sympathies.
Seriously though, if the guy is as corrupt as it seems and Sven is as incompetent as the World Cup striker selection debacle suggests, it doesn't bode well for a happy future....still who knows?

Poor old City

Greats news, new owner, big investment.

Then they blow it by turning to Sven

(Still they might get a few nil nils )

Please God not Sven. He is not a city manager, his football style is not what I pay to watch. If we get this clown prepare for boring defensive rubbish... much like last season but this time maybe with players we all know should be able to perform better. Sven has a great talent at turning quality players in to mediocre wasters. worst thing that could happen to us with the exception of souness

A guy like this buying into the club. Sven Goran erikson being appointed manager. I am astonished that City fans are worried about Sven!!! Are your priorities right?!? That's peanuts compared with a corrupt crook like Thaksin!

I really can't understand why everyone is so negative about Sven. He did 'okay' with England, and it (despite what everyone seems to say) he didn't do terribly. In fact he was one of the most successful managers since Alf Ramsey by getting to three major tournament quarter finals in succession. With the team at the last World Cup he should have done better, but then MacLaren is doing a lot worse with pretty much the same team - what was dropping Beckham all about? Also England were robbed by injuries in the last World Cup... Owen and Rooney were both outside of sharpness and fitness, then Owen was injured, it was a total nightmare - that and Lampard just being totally off key. I think we should give Sven a break - He's a top club manager, and was actually one of the world's best up until he switched to international management. Doubles with Benfica and Lazio - where are these clubs now in their respective countries?? He has as much experience in the English game as Rafa Benitez, and for a club like Man City he would be a remarkable acquisition. If they get behind him instead of whining straightaway you'll probably see what Sven is really capable of.

i'm not worried about sven all too much but thaksin on the otherhand, im seriously scared for our future. How can you back a bid for someone who is being accused of corruption at such a serious level. Who also 'indirectly' controls a company at the heart of the transfer bungs scandal last year.

i crapping it.

I'd rather have sven in charge than support a boring club with awful fans, shocking style and little midget for a manager....can anyone guess who I'm talking about?
