West Indies vs England, Day 4

Test cricket England

There are, I think, 100 possible overs to be bowled today, with a further 100 tomorrow. However, the forecast suggests we won't get them all.

The weather is dodgy, the pitch is slow and the bowlers have hardly shone. So it's a certain draw then? Well, I guess not. Early wickets for the Windies today and they could find themselves with a first innings lead of a hundred or more. England, meanwhile, with Strauss, Colly, Bell and Prior, have enough batting left to gain parity, or even take the lead.

My hopes for the day are that England, led by Strauss, play positive cricket, get close to, or overtake, the Windies target, and declare before the close. Hoggy then snares a couple of wickets to set up an entertaining final day, with all 4 results possible.

What are your thoughts?

Wonder how much would be possible to chase in a short space of time. Would it be possible to chase say 150 tomorrow, taking into account WI getting 250.

Hoping the Windies can at least put a total up that England will have a go at chasing, then again they have to survive the evening. Traveling around 220 miles for the final day so hoping its a good one smiley

West Indies have only managed to show moderate ability a few times during the entire series. They are a relatively young side and some of them will develop into very good performers but they do not strike me as ever being a TEAM. I feel that this is because they have not had a charasmatic captain for a very long time. I do however, feel sorry for Chanderpaul. None of us want to add years to our age but I bet he sometimes thinks, If only I had played in the West Indies teams of yesteryear.

Weather shouldnt be a problem tomorrow winkeye according to the Met office it will be sunny intervals all day. Hopefully they mean that those are only intervalled with cloud and no rain. Only supposed to rain after 18:00

Lets keep those fingers crosed both for the weather and for the trains running on time

The west indies have improved as the series has progressed, especially in the bowling department. Edwards, Powell and Collymore are all capable performers with the ball but the lack of warm up games really cost them in the first 2 tests.

Batting wise, Chanderpaul, Bravo and Gayle apart the are poor. Morton, Devon Smith and Ganga are all abit out of their depth in english conditions. One aspect they have going for them is they have 2 very good young all rounders in sammy and bravo. Also I think Ramdin has a great future ahead of him.

YOu can always rely on Gayle to pass 50 once the series has already been lost....

any thoughts as to the line up should flintoff be fit soon? (though I doubt he will be). Do people still think he's good enough to bat 6 especially when the top 6 minus Strauss have done so well and no doubt Tresco will come back in sooner or later. Fred for me should never be 6, he's 7 and that's it. Prior has done well thus far and deserves an extended run though I have always advocated Read in at 8 if Fred was put in his proper place at 7 cos Read is good enough to avg 20 at no 8 and by having a longer tail, england could afford to have the best wicky in the team. Won't happen now as Prior has done v.well.....can't help but feel sorry for Read though!

Treso in for strauss. atm i cannot see where flintoff will fit into this team i think hes going to have to rely on an injury or something to get back into the side.

Flintoff will come back in at 7. Prior will drop to eight and either sidebottom or harmison will make way in my opinion.

Trescothick
Cook
Vaughan
Pieterson
Collingwood
Bell
Flintoff
Prior
Hoggard
Harmison
Panesar
