Ben Haim is believed to be on his way to Stamford Bridge
Chelsea have completed the signing of Bolton's out-of-contract defender Tal Ben Haim on a four-year deal.
The 25-year-old Israel international was wanted by Newcastle manager Sam Allardyce, who brought Ben Haim to the Premiership when he was Trotters boss.

But Ben Haim has chosen to sign for Jose Mourinho's Chelsea side rather than move to St James' Park.

He becomes Chelsea's third major summer addition following the captures of Claudio Pizarro and Steve Sidwell.

Ben Haim will join up with his new side in time for their pre-season tour of the United States.

Chelsea boss Jose Mourinho tried to sign Ben Haim in January and his failure to conclude a proposed £2m deal was cited as one of the main reasons behind his alleged rift with owner Roman Abramovich.

With skipper John Terry sidelined by injury the Blues were left short of cover at centre-half, often forcing Mourinho to play midfielder Michael Essien out of position.

The club struggled during the busy Christmas period and into January with a run of just one win in five games seeing them lose their grip on the Premiership title.

Manchester United regained the league crown, finishing six points ahead of Chelsea, although the Blues did win the FA Cup and League Cup.

Is this a good signing? will he get in to the first team? what will happen?
give you thoughts please.

Lets be fair, United deserved the league. However, Chelsea did have bad luck with injuries. No Robben or Cole effectively for whole season. First and second choice goal keepers injured at the same time. No Terry or Boulharouz over Christmas-a very key period, where in my opinion United sealed the league and Ronaldo sealed the PFA etc. Further to that all three centre backs out in Jan. Plus general niggling injuries all players get through the season. I dont think even the most excitable Man U fan can disagree. Apart from Boulharouz (bar one game is utter donkey, why he is called the cannibal i dont know) all are very key players. We were even missing Sheva and Ballack at the end of the season, just at the point Sheva seemed to be finding his feet.

With regards to buying titles, Chelsea had to buy to catchup. We did and passed the others. United had to then buy and catch up they did and now they are spending to stay in front. Clearly the view at Chelsea is they have the resources there already and dont need to go spending heavy. Although a right back should turn up at some point.

Lets see how the season unfolds.

Verigo_timbo, please dont reply to this. Your replies are too long and crazy.

What are people saying on here, some of it dosen't even add up.

All wee need at this period of time is cover we proved last season that we had the better season than man united even though that they are worthy champions we still got silver ware as arsenal, liverpool did not so their for chelsea and man u are the biggest clubs in england and in europe.

Ben Hiam, Pizarro, Sidwell and Danny Philskirk are all very talented players which all of them will be needed this season as we have drogba, essien, kalou, mikel, geremi are all going to african cup of nations then we might even have injury problems (i hope not) so they should all get games.

Pizarro 28, Sidwell 25, ben hiam 25 are all at the age of when they hit their prime so we might see something special pre-season. Also their are still 2 months left in the transfer market so their is still time to bring in more cover and a star signing.

I don't think that sheva and ballack were a flop.

Ballack was cruising through this league all of his goals were world class and his passing is something special i think he scored about 10 goals from midfield last season.

Shevchenko well he is a special talent people are calling him a flop just remember he is the euorpean footballer of the year winner of 2004 he may be 30 years old but he looks good for his age. I thought sheva was hitting form at the end of the seaosn with the goals and performances against tottenham, porto and valencia also i thought we missed him when he got injured for the CL semi-final against liverpool and other games because we struggled to compette with man united in the league without him and failed to beat the easiest sides in the league and lost valuable points and we drew 5 games on the trott and nearly lost the fa cup final. Don't forgett sheva scored vital goals last season the away goal aginst porto, the equalizer aginst valencia which took us to the CL semi-finals, and the goal against tottenham which took us to the FA Cup semi's (sheva got injuired in the fa cup semi-finals) ballack scored the all important goal which took us to the fa cup final.

Shevchenko scored 14 goals with 11 assits (not bad for a 30 year old who carried a heavy injury through the world cup and his first blue season.

I think next season is when sheva and ballack are going to hitt top gear becasue we have key players going to africa and the won't to prove people wrong.

Just think drogbas going to africa - sheva will be our main striker and when he is on top form he is a legend.

im very happy we now have three centre backs, just need to get alex in now. we only needed an extra 4players, please take note man united fans, we lost the league bcos of our injuries to cech and terry and not having good enough back up, that was our own fault, BUT when we play our strongest eleven theres no arguement or doubt we are the best team in that league, bare in mind too uve beat us once in four seasons scoring 3goals.
our strongest eleven is CECH, PAULO, TERRY, CARVALHO, BRIDGE, MIKEL, ESSIEN, LAMAPARD, ROBBEN, DROGBA, COLE.
also lets b honest the signings uve made havent brought ur squad any closer to ours in terms of quality.

signing average players is something man united are experts at in recent seasons, saha, smith, carrick, hargreaves, evra, whers the class there? i bet roman gives jose money to sign one world class attacker. y pay money for players to sit on the bench cos thats all ben haim, sidwell and pizarro will do.they'll contribute to the squad as well though

i think sheva will come good, and ballack will to, ther worth keeping in the squad, cos we may need them to grab us the odd goal when wer up against it, a full pre-season together will do us no harm whats so ever. weve got good numbers now and i expect two more signings mayb three and the only player to leave will b boulahrouz, maybe glenn johnson(can he still do a job for us?)

Jose Mourinho has made another clever signing. I believe this is again another cover player.

Ben Haim is decent Central Defender, i am glad that he signed for us chelsea. He will bring great positioning skills, tackling ability and stregth to our defence.
