England v West Indies day five

Test cricket England
comment on the article

Monty Panesar took three wickets and Steve Harmison two as England won the third Test by 60 runs to secure the series over West Indies.

Harmison claimed his 200th and 201st wickets in Tests when Jerome Taylor and Fidel Edwards fended rising balls to short-leg and gully to make it 385-9.

Monty Panesar removed Denesh Ramdin, Darren Sammy and Corey Collymore to claim his first 10-wicket Test haul.

Shiv Chanderpaul finished unbeaten with a century.

Give your thoughts on the day's action.

SisterKaren

Absolutely agree. I remember Bell being so introspective and nervous. Looking back at the archives of the Ashes 2005 the difference between Bell then and Bell now is quite remarkable.

Hats off to Michael Vaughan as well - a class act by any standard. To be up there with Peter May is something special. I like the way he gives full credit to his players - also a sign of class!!! smiley

"England are useless and have no killer instinct"

I know we lost the Ashes badly and the team deserved to be criticised for that but as you say we now have a decent side who remember are ranked number 2 in the world for a reason.

really well done England!! Series victory!! However now we should look at the one day series!! The World Cup was a disaster because we had no aggressive batsmen (except KP)!! We should rebuild a team along the lines of Australia:

Hayden(test opener who can really hit the ball)
Gilchrist(aggressive batsmen at top of order)
Ponting(best batsmen)
Clarke(only stroke player in team)
Symonds(well you know...)
Hussey(finisher!! can accelerate or dig deep)
Watson(hard hitting lower order batsman)
Hogg(same)
Lee(bowler)
Bracken(bowler)
Tait(bowler)

So all England have to do is to base their team on that:

Test opener who can hit a ball hard:TRESCOTHICK
Aggressive batsman at top of order:BENNING
Best batsman:PIETERSEN
Stroke player:COOK/BELL/VAUGHAN
Huge hitter:FLINTOFF
Finisher:COLLINGWOOD
Big hitting lower order:PRIOR
Big hitting lower order and spinner:BLACKWELL
Bowler:PLUNKETT
Bowler:LEWIS
Bowler:ANDERSON

I think we can't get much better than that!! No Monty!! He's excellent in tests but isn't better than Blackwell in ODIs and Blackwell can bat!! As for stroke player, I'd go for Cook but the selectors may choose Vaughan as he's captain!! Let me know what you think

The way England is playing, recovering smartly from their Ashes debacle in Australia, is bad news for India, who visit later this summer. I especially laud Vaughn, for the way he has come back from injury and for the way he is leading his team.

Trying to understand why Pieterson is batting at No 3. I feel sure that his skills are more potent when he is at 4 or 5. Explanation eagerly awaited.

Beefyboth.

You should also look at trying to get Ricky Clarke and Dimitri Mascaranus into the side as well as looking at Darren Maddy.

When it comes to a 20/20 side my side would be:-

Loye
Trescothick
Benning
Pietersen
Flintoff
Clarke
Brown (Surrey)
Blackwell
Bopara
Maddy
Mascaranus

Yes Paul Bennett is amazing but not as good as Emlyn who will play for Wales county and score 30000000000000 runs at an average of 567.643564536456!!!!!!!! We still love you paul though!
