Real chief wants Beckham to stay

Calderon (right) believes he can persuade Backham to stay
Real Madrid are keen to persuade David Beckham to ditch his plans to join LA Galaxy and remain at the Bernabeu.
England midfielder Beckham, 32, is due to join the MLS club when his Real contract expires at the end of June.

Real Madrid president Ramon Calderon has hinted there is a clause in the England midfielder's contract which could allow them to keep him.

But a spokesman for Beckham insisted there was "no intention" of not going through with the LA Galaxy move.

The spokesman added: "David is looking forward to going to LA - but he wants to end his career at Real Madrid on a high note first, by winning the league."

Calderon was reported by Marca newspaper as saying: " "We need to sit down with Beckham, his representatives and with (Real sporting director Predrag) Mijatovic, look at this clause, and decide between us.

"But for me I would be delighted if he remained at the club."

Real reacted sharply to Beckham's rejection of their contract offer in January.

Coach Fabio Capello said Beckham would never play for the first-team again.

Calderon was even more scathing, branding Beckham: "an average cinema actor living in Hollywood," comments which prompted Real's players to throw their backing behind the England midfielder.

There was a bit of anger by the premature announcement of his exit

real Madrid president Ramon Calderon

The Real president also claimed: "The proof our technical team was right in not considering his continuity has been ratified as nobody wanted him."

But Beckham's attitude impressed Capello enough to win back his first-team place.

The England midfielder has been inspirational as Real have put themselves in pole position to win the Spanish title.

In the meantime, Beckham has also won back his place in the England team, after his international career appeared to have ended.

Beckham is a brand, he is no longer a sportsman and has not been for several years. He need never kick a ball again and this is apparent in his game in recent years.
His move to the US is to please his wife Victoria who has struggled so hard to find fame after the Spice Girls.
They are commodities; they have sold their souls and their lives to the media - they will love their time in the US, let's just hope they stay there!

What's his name again?, yes, Becks!I think he should go and help our friends at LA, just as he has helped his boss to understand that his talent goes beyond just talk. To me he is still the best among the few.

I feel for exposure, Beckham should stay at Real Madrid. The move to US will harm his career in future

Beckham needs to honor his contract with the LA Galaxy. We all know of coaches who are very friendly when asking a player to support their team - but the minute a player signs they become less friendly. Is Capello like this? Beckham will be a huge shot of adrenaline to football in America - arguably the largest consumer market in the world and one in which football would really like to make inroads. Football is growing in popularity in the USA - why do you think that American businessmen are investing in clubs like Manchester United and Liverpool? Let Beckham become an ambassador for the beautiful game.

>MGUK- MLS = SPL in terms of quality, whats that scottish or spanish? Either way you must be having a laugh.

If I was talking Spanish, I would be having a laugh but I'm talking Scottish.

Admittedly I've had an NY Redbulls fan trying to sell me the MLS for the past few months so I'll use them an an example.

The '07 Red Bulls have Juan Pablo Angel as a main striker with some of the better US players(including Cladio Reyna) in there as well.

If they faced my local Conference team Exeter City in a friendly on either side of the Atlantic, City would probably get caned, they don't have anywhere near those sort of players, so comparing the MLS to the Conference is definately idiotic!

Ok anyone who thinks Beckham is not a good footballer is not thinking at all.
David Beckham is one of the top 10 players in the last ten years. For Manchester Utd fans he will always be a legend, for Real Madrid fans he will be remembered as someone with a huge impact. But most importantly for England fans, he was Englands Best player since he got sent off in 98. of course it was a dumb thing to do, but the media's attacks inspired him to take the step up and mature, and be voted number 2 in the world the next season. If people think that MLS is of very low quality those people are misguided. I believe that the MLS is a great league because there are no big four and the winners are always suprising. Class of course it doenst flourish in class, but the USA national side are starting to become better and better and most of the team is US based, though a few play in Europe -cherundolo at hamburg, mcbride, bocanegra, dempsey at fulham, Beasleuy at PSV, Onweyu at Newcastle.

The USA are going to become huge favourites to compete heavily in the world cup in 2010 and 2014. Beckham will transform them into that. his experience will change the player landon donovan is, and the rest of LA, and the league to play against a player of his calibre.

Bring on Beckham and Team USA
