England v West Indies day two

Monty Panesar

England 370 & 34-1 v West Indies 229

Monty Panesar and Ryan Sidebottom put England in charge of the third Test against West Indies on a bizarre day.

There was no hint of the chaos to come when Steve Harmison and Liam Plunkett produced an erratic display after Ian Bell hit 97 in England's 370 all out.

But Panesar took 4-50 and Sidebottom 3-48 as the Windies collapsed from 216-4 to 229 in the space of 44 balls.

But England, who had a lead of 141, lost Andrew Strauss lbw second ball to Fidel Edwards in their second innings.

It doesn't sound like it was Prior's wicket keeping, just the now usual trash from Harmless. It is lucky that the Windies in Plinky/Planky are mostly bowling just as badly so that he isn't particularly shown up in this series.

It wasn't Prior's fault at all! Plunkett and Harmison were woeful and sent deliveries well wide down the leg and off sides - look at the wides count too! In fact, I reckon Harmison only got Ganga out LBW cos Ganga wasn't actually expecting a straight delivery!!

Get behind the team I say instead of looking for the bad in them - if you are out of form you need support not slating - I think it's great we skittled them I am there tomorrow to watch the skipper and KP get hundreds COME ON ENGLAND!!!

philitfc
"what has happend to ravinda bopara he can bat and bowls and perhaps be more affective than liam plunkett"

Well he can certanly bat much better scoreing 226 against Northamptonshire for Essex in the county game going on at the moment, and has been in fine form for us (essex) all year if we win the series at this match (which we should) then maybe blooding him into the test team may be a good idea instead of strauss not plunkett as he does not bowl as much for Essex

Much as I want to get behind England, with 2 of our main bowlers delivering what can only be described as absolute dross it tests the patience no end.

Has anyone interviewed Harmison and Plunkett and asked them why they were so completely awful? I would like to see their take on their own bowling. If Harmison still believes he has nothing to prove then he is living in cloud cuckoo land. They should be sent back to county cricket until they sort out their accuracy and bring in some reliable bowlers.

It's obvious the Windies will lose this series, may as well get someone in for a bit of test match practice as thy can't do any worse than the trash we saw today.

I'm all for getting behind the national team - 8 of the XI are pulling their weight, Strauss is in a bad run of form, so what's wrong with giving the stragglers some stick. If I'd been there today I would genuinely have booed Harmison - he needs to realise that, at the moment, he is RUBBISH!!!!!!!! smiley

POOREST AND THE MOST BRAINLESS BOWLING DISPLAY EVER FROM THIS ENGLAND TEAM. HARMISON IS NOW A JOKE,AND PLUNKETT NEDS SPECTACLES TO SE THE WICKETS. THANK GOODNESS THE WINDIES BATSMEN WERTE WORSE THAN ENGLANDS BOWLERS. THERE HAS GOT TO BE BETTER BOWLERS THAN HARMISON AND PLUNKETT.

A bit harsh, that, fogey. I think cricket has plenty of space for idiosyncracies and no one, however huge their ego, is bigger than the game. Next you'll be telling Shep not to draw attention to himself with his ridiculous antics when the score is at Nelson or for Boycott not to bowl with his cap on backwards.

Hmm on second thoughts about Boycs perhaps someone should have sidled up to him and told him he looked stupid!
