Viduka set for Newcastle transfer

Premiership Middlesbrough
comment on the article

Newcastle have agreed in principle to sign Middlesbrough striker Mark Viduka.

The 31-year-old Australian has been offered an extended deal by Boro boss Gareth Southgate but has yet to give an answer to the Teessiders.

Newcastle say they have no comment to make about Viduka's possible switch from the Riverside to St James' Park.

Portsmouth and West Ham are also believed to be keen on Viduka and Birmingham have reportedly joined the chase to sign him as well.

What are your thoughts on where Viduka may or may not be heading?

If Viduka wants to move then I hope he does well. He has been wonderful for us in the time he was here and for that all middlesbrough fans are thankful. Mark is one of the best strikers in the world athis peak. Thank you Mark.

Jimnorm says: "I congratulate Viduka on his feelings to join what fans do think that, are the 'big clubs'! To me, what is somebody's career have nothing to do with age especially if Viduka himself feels that, he can continue well as usual. I'm very dispointed with the attitude of many managers who always consider age with the ability of players rather than their current competitive abilities! I think it would right if they would check their plans for life before that because, they are only right for the situation like of a player being used by the club for a long period. Otherwise, Viduka who I know deserve the clubs with the highest standard of football qualities and not only what we call big clubs for wealthful reasons!"

Did you translate that on Babelfish?

Viduka is just a small piece to the puzzle. We still need more quality on the wings, especially the right. We need to upgrade Solano, who would be great coming off the bench. Also, Emre needs to go back to a lesser league that plays with less intensity and doesn't require tackling; because, to me, it seems he has a terrible allergy to it. >

More quality on the wings??? Newcastle have 5 international wingers and you want more quality? erm

Duff (Rep Ire), O'Brien (Rep Ire), Solano (Ex-Peru), Milner (Eng U21's) & N'Zogbia (Fra U21's)!!!

Yes, more wingers needed!!!

Yeah GeoMax, those are names that the top four in the premiership would all sign, right?

There is a reason that they ae all playing for the Toon and we finished in the bottom half of the table.

How many goals did they account for? Other then Solano setting up a bunch of goals those guys did nothing. Duff is an injury bag, Solano is old and has lost a step, Milner and N'Zogbia will be good but aren't world class right now.

I don't consider any of them 'untouchable', so yeah, I would love to see more quality on the outside of the midfield. Especially when N'Zogbia won't even take a spot on the bench. What a joke. Sam will settle the mess. Just watch.

Viduka is good, no doubt, but has anybody noticed the worrying lack of defence? That is why newcastle finished at the bottom of the table. Oba and Owen, duff when hes fit, milner, emre, and no viduka. The attack should be sorted...with the right manager

Yes, Viduka had a decent season, particularly the latter half as his contract approached expiry. But don't forget the previous two largely disappointing years, ankle and back injuries. He is a great footballer, no question, but the team has to play his way. Get the ball to his feet, get on his wavelength and he is a great hold-up player. He is not mobile (ditto Yak, so we had a very static forward line when the two played together). Assuming he goes, good luck to him. Lets get a couple of younger more willing forwards to replace him and try Yak and Lee as a partnership. Oh, and why would he go to Newcastle. Bigger crowd? More chance of silverware? A more obscene contract (probably for 3 years)? Course not. Vertical stripes make you look thinner, just ask Trinny and Susannah.

Okay Viduka scored 19 goals in one season, but i stll don't class him as a skilled player, by joining Newcastle he will actually bring the team spirit down,
