London 2012 logo revealed

Lord Coe wants the branding to appeal to young people

The logo for the 2012 Olympics has been unveiled in the most significant move since London won the Games.

The jagged emblem, based on the date 2012, comes in a series of shades of pink, blue, green and orange and will evolve in the run-up to the Games.

"This is the vision at the very heart of our brand," said London 2012 organising committee chairman Seb Coe.

"It will define the venues we build and the Games we hold and act as a reminder of our promise to use the Olympic spirit to inspire everyone and reach out to young people around the world.

"It is an invitation to take part and be involved.

"We will host a Games where everyone is invited to join in because they are inspired by the Games to either take part in the many sports, cultural, educational and community events leading up to 2012 or they will be inspired to achieve personal goals."

Although i understand that designing a logo that is representational and impact provoking is very difficult, this proposed logo is very bland and unimaginative. I have designed one logo that could be used for the sailing, and i would be happy to design a few logos that maybe, in my opinion, would be more acceptable. I just hope that more imagination goes in to the opening and closing ceremonies, thanks for reading, C.J.

This logo is terrible! I cannot believe that someone got paid to come up with that. The color sucks, the shape is terrible, the font is messed, it doesn't look good when small or big.

What a royal waste! I hope this isn't official.

England's horrific all-white football kit 'designed' by Umbro dampened my enthusiasm for the 2010 World Cup, and this logo has dampened my enthusiasm for the 2012 Olympics.

Why, as a country, do we have to be so arrogant? What's wrong with a decent, normal kit and a decent, normal logo?

(And this is coming from a designer who loves creativity and ingenuity, but not bland, soulless rubbish masquerading as such.)

I think a proper shild with the british royals, coat of arms, used in conjunction, with something modern, would be much appreciated, something that incorperated BRITISH, tradition, not some rediculas hybred that looks like a margerine container on steroids! Hmmmmph! I am disgusted and can not condone this misuse of our nations cashe, and panashe!
