Hooray Henry!

Rarely have I seen such emotion surrounding a flat race, well done to Henry Cecil, there was not one pundit who ever thought this would come again. Such a nice touch to see losing jockeys congratulate the great man too.

The filly, staff and jockey were all exceptional but it really is Henry's day...

... and it got the BBC's head out of Dettoris **** for half an hour too!

Haha yup sure did, at least until the bloody advert for their programme tonight came on.

'I've ridden in the Derby 15 times now so I know what it feels like'

Yup, you sure do know Frankie, except you don't know what it feels like to win :D

So delighted for Henry Cecil. I got a lump in my throat I'll admit! But that's my mum's 'mashed' potato for you!

I thought Light Shift looked seriously classy winning at Chester and today confirmed her ability! They've finished pretty spread out and she battled on brilliantly after quickening impressively! Light Shift vs Alexandrova will/would be interesting!

Light Shift looks a very, very good filly. She should really prefer faster ground to todays as well. I'd back her to beat Alexandrova and I think she'll be capable of mixing it with the colts. She doesn't seem to have a weakness, she travels, quickens, stays and today she showed she can fight as well.

No I would certainly have Alexandrova. Older fillies will always beat the 3yos - Soviet Song vs Attraction prime example.

Disagree Jackane. Soviet Song was a better filly than Attraction, IMO anyway.

Alexandrova herself beat three four year olds in the Yorkshire Oaks as a three year old and over the years there are way too many to mention occasions of three year old fillies proving superior to older ones.

You can't just pick out one or two examples and treat it as a rule.

It comes down to quality in the end.

Good on Henry, a true racing legend!!!!

I don't think Light Shift would beat Alexandrova though, as she was one very classy filly.

While I do believe that age counts for a lot in mixed age races, quality is still very important I agree, and would have Alexandrova over Light Shift if they were both 3yo.

What a top, top trainer, and a top bloke old Henry Cecil is. I was brought up to despise the class system that throws up toffs like him, but I have to concede he exhibits all the qualities of a true gent. Plus he's a right sharp dresser, somewhat like meself. God bless you Henry.

Great post, btw, but spare us the digs at Frankie next time. He's worth 7lbs off the back of any horse when he's on song, and he's always been good for the sport.
