If this is the best that the Welsh have to offer..... The guy is a lunatic and not someone that you should be proud of leading your country.

Toshack wants a big name as his captain and at the moment Bellamy is the nearest thing to a big name he has. I can see his thinking in naming Bellamy captain but it looks like the choice of a desperate man. Maybe the responsibility will be the making of the Bellamy but I highly doubt it. A great player on his day but as a Newcastle fan I know only to well how Bellamy responds when things don't go his way.

Wales just don't have many quality players at their disposal these days. Where are the modern day Toshacks, John Charles's, Sparkies, Rushies, Ratcliffes and Southalls? Come on you Welsh boys your country needs you!!!!

I think he will be yes, he is a quality player; one of only a very few in Wales. In relation to his behaviour I think be need to change sports to rugby and look at the positive affect being named captain did and continues to do for fellow Welsh livewire Gareth Thomas.

Bellamy has got his head to far up his own backside to be a captain! He thinks he is a lot better than he is and thinks he is soo much better than every one else, when he isnt! He'd be the type of player that when the team gets beat will blame everyone but himself! He will never have the right attitude to be a good captain!

Belamy, choose from loser, moron, muppet or any other adjective you can think of.
I can't believe this clown has been appointed captain.
How is this fool going to set an example or inspire anyone.
He's trouble wherever he goes so what do you do - make the idiot captain.
I don't think it should just be Giggs who retires on saturday, but the whole
Welsh national team - absolutely rubbish.

I think Bellamy is ideal for the Welsh captain. He shows true grit and determination and will give the Welsh team a backbone for once. This baffoon doesn't have a clue what he is talking about and should hang his head in shame.

I think that every international team needs a big name captain, England had beckham (all be it England have a lot of big names) Brazil had Cafu Wales had Giggs. The closest thing Wales have to a big name Is Belllamy.

To be completely honest Is he big headed? Yes, Has he been a major success at any club? No, Is he now the biggest named player Wales have? Yes and to be fair to the bloke.. He has playe din the premiership for most of his rollercoaster career

Now maybe he wont make a good captain but surely if all the Welsh players aspire, not to be like Craig Bellamy, but to play at the clubs he has played at, surely it can only create better players.

it will be intersting to see how he leads the team but if they end up having the successes of Liverpool have had recently, Things can only get better for Wales.

Personlaly i dont like Craig Bellamy but i think he is the best choice for Wales to take it one step further AT THE MOMENT! so Good Luck to them.

P.S Wayne Hennesy is the best thing to come out of Wales. WE R WOLVES!

Bellamy will be a good captain. He's the right generation and if he moves away from Liverpool and out of the champions' League, he'll have plenty of energy and motivation for Wales' games. He's a bossy bugger and according to Strachan, he's been giving verbals to team-mates since he was 21 and at Coventry. Good managers (Strachan, Toshack, O'Neil?) recognise his qualities: duffers (Souness!?!) don't. He'll be just the job to motivate the hot and cold merchants like Davies and Koumas, bring out the dog in the scrappier types and show the youngsters how much it matters. Great choice Tosh.

PS as a bitter and disillusioned Leeds fan could i take a moment to salute a mighty Manc...So long Ryan. Consistently the best British player in the last 16 years. I saw your first and last international in cardiff and many in between and it's been a privilege. Took me son to see you today for his first game. Thanks from him too.

He will be a good captain but then again he has not been scoring goals which will bring the whole teams confidence down. and wales at da mo need all they can get.

GiGGS cannot be repaced.
