The Derby approaches

Is Authorized a Tenby about to happen again? Tenby was the last odds on favourite to run in the race (I think) in 1993, when he came 10th to his stablemate Commander In Chief. He has also won the Dante very impressively, a race which was going to be the last race he actualy DID win.

An even money favourite means bigger prices for the other horses and in 1993 I had some money on the second horse Blue Judge at 150-1 (partly on the basis that he was by Rainbow Quest).

With so many of the field trained by Aiden O'Brien, and little really strong form lines to go on, I am looking at MAHLER as a possible good investment at 33-1. He is improving, stays the disatnce and is by Galileo out of a Rainbow Quest mare from a family which was trained by Geoff Wragg.

Other horses may have more obvious chances, but usually at least one of the lesser fancied O'Brien runners does well.

I'm dreading Frankie's dismount if he wins the Derby on Saturday. Hope Authorized will give him a kick in the teeth!
Egos should come second were horses are concerned. It suprises me that trainers let him do these dismounts, the horses often look alarmed, especially fillies. It is very unprofessional. Jockeys from the past like Lester Piggot & Gordon Richards would never have acted in such a disgraceful manner around racehorses

haha I don't know what is funnier - people tipping yallowstone for the derby or people saying Frankie scares horses!

I am starting to like Arabian Gulf more as the weather continues to point in his favour. I think the ground is now soft with soft to good in places. Arabin Gulf likes a bit of cut in the ground apparently.
I know he was given four pounds when racing Soldier Of Fortune but I think the horse needed the ride for experience and will be greatly improved for this race.
The more it rains the less it helps Authorized. This horse is going to get even shorter before the race as the general public gets on him. The BBC advert doesn't help.
I tell you what though I liked to see some people with big kahunas lay this one as there is definaltey money to be made if she doesn't win.
Anyways good luck everyone with The Derby weekend there is going to be some fabulous racing and I really hope that Cecil get his big win in The Oaks.
I found this website that has a guide to the big two races if you are interested.

Cheers

Commiserations all you Frankie haters! You are not fit to polish his boots! Reading all your comments, anyone would think you did not like the sport. Dettori has done more to put horse racing in the public eye than anyone in recent years. I hope he whoops it up 'em on Saturday, at least he'll put horse racing on the press front pages for all the right reasons.

The uniqueness of the Derby just cant justify any odds on favourites in my humble opinion and although Authorized does look the class I have a sneak for Aqaleem to run a decent race.

With the rain we have had I think PWCH's entry has the right credentials to bring it home.
