Beckham recall

International football England

Politically correct or not, the Beckham recall to the England squad is a good short term move. The experience he has, the lack of quality or consistency from his "ready made" replacement Lennon have contributed to this necessity. I find myself pleased that Mclaren has the balls to do a U turn, while he fights for life in the job. Although he made the noises to indicate the door was not closed to Beckham, I don't think anyone, himself included, actually believed it.
The next problem to negotiate is what happens when David starts the American leg of his career. Can we really have an England player playing in a league thats more equal in standard to the Conference than the Premiership. Nugent has to move to keep in the frame, Championship players do not keep their place by right, can Conference players?

I am a liverpool fan & i think pennant is good enough to be in the squad!! Whatever anybody else thinks is irrelevant to me because everybody has an opinion.McLaren please call Pennant & try him on the right, im very confident he wont disappoint the team

Just to clarify, Pennant did play most games for Liverpool last season. No point in arguing that fact if you haven't seen the figures Theenforcer22.

Warrior cowboy. Just to clarify, I looked up the figures on BBC Sport. I am disputing the fact that someone said Pennant played more games for Liverpool than any other player - a stat which was clearly fabricated.

Of course, everyone is entitled to an opinion and everyone has their favourites. But it would appear that Pennant is way down the pecking order. It was in one of the papers yesterday that McLaren was asked who will take over on the right in the long-term and he mentioned 6 potential candidates (Lennon, Wright-Philips, Bentley, Agbonlahor, Walcott, Young) and didn't mention Pennant.

With all due respect Theenforcer, Mclarens assertions dont really matter to me afterall how many matches has he won? And besides since he took over as manager England,s style of play is just too predictable.Let him try Pennant on the right & see the variation in the team. Pennant is one of the best right wingers in the country & whether you like it or not he will play for England sooner than later!!

Why is Lennon being written off already? He's hardly been given a decent chance by McTwat (against Israel he was on the left, not his natural position), and other players who have gone well past their sell by date (Frank Lampard) are there simply on past performances that go back well over a year ago.

It has nothing to do with player choice - England will contiue to underperform as long as our tactics remain predictable and banal!

>>Why is Lennon being written off already?

because he's still more hype than end product.

He's not written off, we need to wait a little longer for him to develop. He's a sub at best at the moment.

i laugh at that statment and i think david beckham has proved himself enough to ridicule it ' championship players do not keep their place by right, can conference', i think the mls league is a little bit better than boston united. david beckham should play no question. im sure in AMERICA ITS ALL ABOUT DOING SOMTHING FOR YOUR COUNTRY RIGHT??
