Becks back in England fold

England
comment on the article

David Beckham has been recalled ahead of Friday's friendly against Brazil, and is likely to feature in the Euro 2008 qualifier in Estonia on 6 June.

Beckham was dropped by manager Steve McClaren in August 2006, his first squad after taking over the hot-seat from Sven-Goran Eriksson.

Speaking to BBC Sport's Five Live, the 32-year-old said that he can still perform for the national side despite his move to LA Galaxy in the summer.

Some fans and pundits thought the move to LA from Real Madrid, where he has earned rave reviews, may affect his football, but Beckham told BBC Radio Five Live: "I still feel I would be able to play for England if it ever comes up again.

"The US season is shorter and I'll be fitter because training will be more difficult because of the humidity. We only play 30 games a year so we get more time off.

Read more here: news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/foo... and tune in to 606 on Five Live, 1800BST on Saturday for the full interview.

What do you think? Are you pleased with the recall? Can Beckham do a job for England wherever he plays, or do you think moving to the MLS will harm his game?

I think Becks will have to show that he is a permanent move for Mclaren - he's got to get into his stride quickly.

No disrespect to Lennon or Wright-Phillips, Beckham is best at crossing the ball into penalty area or scoring from free kicks. He is a good team member who can inspire team spirit. I think McClaren has ran out of ideas and used Beckham to keep his job safe. I hope Beckham can produce something England need. We must keep Beckham in the squad until next world cup (if we get thru)...I reckon David James & Sol Campbell should be in the squad as well. They have been overlooked by McClaren.

clueless idiot.Mcclaren didnt even deny his return had annoyed ther other players,he`ll just cause the disruption he always did."inspire" is what as "captain" he never once did in 3 major tournaments, hopelessly out of his depth in both world cups and the euro2004 tournament where he was beneath contempt.

I agree Daven; he should never have been dropped in the first place. In terms of goals and assists he was one of our most effective at the world cup 2006 (remember the 'own goal' that any other player would have been credited with). But the committment he has shown to get back into the Real Madrid team and now the England team is admirable. Real Madrid's current success in Spain is at least partly due to him, so give him some credit and stop doing the English thing of knocking and destroying everything and everybody we have that's any good.

will be great to see beckham back in the shirt of england, where he belongs on the pitch at wembley, pathetic the way certain "fans" have turned on becks, i bet you were praising him when he scored in the last minute against greece. Think of everything hes done for england, can you honestly say we have a player better than him, nope didnt think so. Looking forward to the brazil game when we will have someone who actually shows passion and commitment when playing for his country. Bring on the mighty estonia.
