Sidwell, A good move??

Premiership Chelsea
comment on the article

Im sure everybody by now has heard the news that former gunners lad, Steven Sidwell has signed for Chelsea.

I wanted to know your opinions, as to whether this was the right move for him or not??

Now hes moving to a club that will challenge on all fronts, so it that sense hes made a wise career move,

However we've seen in the past at Chelsea, that young English players rarely play, the same critisism can be made of Arsenal also.

Obviously his wages have significantly gone up to what they were at Reading and good for him, BUT

Can he really hold down a spot at Chelsea with the likes of these players...

B*ll*ck
Essien
Fat Frank
Mikle
Maka
J Cole
Robben

(ps i know the last 2 are not the positions Sidwell plays in)

I mean thats a hell of alot of competition!

So will he make it with you guys, or will he end up like SWP, a bench warmer with the occasional cup games and league sub apperances??

PS i hope he makes it, hes a good player with the pontential to become better, and for the sake of England fans, lets pray he realises this soon and oustes Fat Frank!

I belive its agood move for chealse, considering the pressure the team goes through whenever essean is withrown from the midfield, but i doubt if that's a good one for the player since chealse will deffinatelly go in for at least a central deffender which will see essean moved back to his namarl posstion at the central midfield with the likes of ballack and makelele, but i want to believe the player believes in himself and can make the first team if given the opportunity. wishing him all the best.

sidwell is an excellent player and could do well at any premiership club, but chelsea could be a bad move for him as they have quality in depth in every position. given a chance he could displace mikel, and with lampard seemingly on the way out he has a good chance to contend for a place, but we have all seen too many times players of his quality consigned to the reserves for a season or two before being sold to a small team in a last ditch effort to rebuild their reputation. if he had stayed at reading he may have been contending for an england spot next season. at chelsea it will be all he can do to hold down a first team slot. that said, good luck to him. he has been excellent for the royals and deserves a chance at a huge team playing in the biggest competitions

Well I happened to have a long debate over this transfer with Sidwell on weekend,he was dressed as a pirate in Newquay though, which makes me think he signed for Chelsea this weekend...

He is a great player and he has joined Chelsea under the right reasons - to develop as a player. If he breaks into the team straight away - result. If he stays on the bench for most of the season - he gains experience from the players aournd him... He said that he wants to mix with the best and you cannot fault him for that! Let's just make sure Reading dont loose out on any of their other stars as they deserve to continue strongly in the Premiership!

I doubt he will make little more than ten starts for Chelsea next season, if that. He doesnt fit chesea's style of play. and even if he did he will never have that "superstar" status to even be considered as consistent subsitute

i think one of the main reasons he was signed is so he can fill in for all the african players while they are away. chelsea will suffer with the likes of Mikel, Drogba, Kalou eing out of the picture. i feel sidwell is a stand in.

I think it's a good move to have Steve Sidwell as there will be a number of players on African Nations Cup duty (Drogba,Essien,Kalou,Obi Mikel) so Chelsea need players to cover for that period. Also, in order to challenge on 4 fronts effectively, Chelsea will need a slightly bigger squad than they had last season-you could see that the players were tiring from playing so many games so I think a bit of sesnsible rotation (NOT a la Benitez!) of players will be to Chelsea's benefit

Sidwell is a decent player to have in the chelsea addition. Sidwell is a Central Midfielder, with creativity and great composure the best thing about Sidwell is that he is 26 years of age and will be a great replacement for Lamps in the FUTURE.

Alot of our best players are going to African Cup of nations next 07/08 season players such as i.e Drogba, Essien, Kalou and Mikel.

I think that mourinho is only buying cover players due to replace injured players if we have another injury crisis like last 06/07 season to key players i.e Terry, Cech and J.Cole ( i hope we don't have another injury crisis).

It seems that Mourinho, Abramovich and Kenyon are expecting sheva and ballack to come good next season so it is a good thing that we are not signing any star players. This might confuse alot of our players.

Steve Sidwell is a decent player and a excellent signing.
