JMMaguire no 1 fan (U6734903) posted May 21, 2007 Denman wont be a danger to Kauto Star in my opinion, if I were to bet on next years Gold Cup now I'd be backing Star De Mohaison, I think he'll be the biggest threat to Kautos crown next year.

legenddessie (U2254483) posted May 21, 2007 Kauto is obviously a brilliant horse, but it would be nice to se him do what Arkle and Dessie did - win the top handicaps giving lumps of weight away, i think he is well capable of doing it, as was Best Mate, who was sadly denied the chance by his over protective trainer.

acceptabletom (U8428048) posted May 21, 2007 Kauto Star wouldnt go in the national, there were a few question marks over him staying the gold cup trip of just over 3 miles, and also his jumping can let him down occasionally as we have seen in this almost impeccable season. Hes a top class 3 mile chaser, and the national would be the last race on Paul Nichols's mind. The gold cup and grand national are also far to close together, with the two hardest races in teh world potentially harming any horse of any ability. Hes got no reason to go for the national, hes a top class 3 mile chaser, which is the ultimate aim for any horse trainer. The national can be generally about luck more than ability, but in 3 mile chase company e.g. king george and the national he can let his ability do all the talking. Great season for Kauto Sat who deserves his well earnt rest. Comment on this article
