England v West Indies

West Indies England
comment on the article

Alastair Cook hit his fifth Test century, and second in three Lord's appearances, as England dominated on an overcast first day against West Indies.

Essex left-hander Cook, 22, was at his phlegmatic best, unruffled by the frequent interruptions for bad light.

He put on 88 for the first wicket with Andrew Strauss, 59 with Kevin Pietersen for the third and added further runs with Paul Collingwood late in the day.

Corey Collymore was the most impressive of the West Indies pace bowlers.

For Monty to score a century Colly, Prior and the rest must be bowled out for very low scores. But Monty scoring a century would be amazing and worthy of a big big party!!!

Nerves, sussexpob. Never got his feet moving. Mind you, knowing that unless he gets 300 he'll get replaced by a crocked out-of-form 32 yr old can't help matters. Just hope that muppet Vaughan isn't back for the 2nd test, and Owais gets another chance.

sussexpob,

A combination of nerves and knowing that regardless of what he does he was going to dropped for the next match anyway.

Maybe we could guess how many balls it would take for Monty to score a century. I guess about 350 balls....

well... and im being very very harsh to him... if he gets nervous and plays an innings like that instead of smashing a poor attack around the ground can he cut it in this game?? he has a very poor record in odi?

i was immensely frustrated watching him...it was almost like he was trying to knick the ball...and that horrible slap for 4? what coaching manual was that from?

i rate him and always have but he has himself to blame for yesterday...let himself down!

You expect people to be nervous on their first home test match.

Remember Ed Smith and that horrible grin on his debut?

Let's just hope Shah gets chance to show what he can do in the second innings.

cook will be an excellent player for years to come, he reminds me so much of graham thorpe, and i think we can all agree how brilliant he was for england. nothing flashy, plenty of quick singles and well worked 2's and 3's. the kind of playerwho will gte big scores on a fairly regular basis, but someone whose there when u need a playerto get stuck in and battle through.

would it be better on the face of it to have County Cricket move to 5 days? It just seems that too many matches are drawn. e.g. Surrey would win their current match with Sussex if it was 5 days but are penalised because they batted well, they now need 10 wickets tomorrowor they lose out. Where's the fair in that?

Also shud a provider like SkySports give a wider range of county cricket, and have cameras at all games so u can watch what you want(One Day only). Im a Surrey fan and would rather watch us post 496 which i cant and havent seen(if any1 has a link be more than grateful) than Lancs getting a medicre 180 odd score.

any get my jist??
