anyone see the derby trial this one just won? what do yous make of it? Ao'B has won the 2 trials in england this week, one in france and is highly likely to win the derrinstown too. he looks to have a very strong hand for this years derby, just picking the right one could be a problem for the punters!

godolphin do have some good horses, they just dont seem very good at getting the best out of them! i dont think their policy of taking the horses to dubai for the winter works either last season they were appalling early on in the year but then from around the time of the st leger through to the end of the season they were having their fair share of winners. this season looks very much like going the same way...

Was very impressed with Admiralofthefleet. The Dee Stakes is not a good Derby trial, but I was very taken with the performance. He's quickened brilliantly and stayed on well. I'd imagine he'd take to Epsom if he takes to Chester, and the extra 2 furlongs really suited him.

I'd have him ahead of Soldier of Fortune, probably about 4th choice now of O'Brien's 38 candidates.

1st - Anton Chekhov (I know the form is not amazing, but I really think a lot of this horse)

2nd - Macarthur
3rd - Mount Nelson

The Dee Stakes not a good trial? In the last ten years Oath and Kris Kin won it en route to Epsom glory.

Yes ok, compare that to the number of winners and placed horses from the Dante or Derrinstown.

Then look at the quality of the 2 Derby winners you mentioned compared to others.

Duke of Marmalade would be my choice from A o B's. Not a bad price either. Problem is, it's difficult to know which will take their place. Ante post is risky at the moment.

O'Briens no.1 derby contender always goes the Ballysax/Derrinstown route. Macarthur

Actually this is not the case. O'Brien's no.1 hope in 2005 was Gypsy King, who followed up in the Dee Stakes after a maiden.

Horatio Nelson's trial for the Derby was the 2000 Guineas last year.

I'm not denying that Macarthur may be his first choice, but I think it's also unwise to write off others because they're not running in the Derrinstown.

Yeh see, Macarthur beat. I don't think even O'Brien knows who his best candidate is. Archipenko now? Mount Nelson could run in the Derby on his seasonal debut?

duke of marmalade will be runing the irish guineas not the derby. archipenko or AOF must be first choice now.
