Who's next for N.I

International football Northern Ireland
comment on the article

Now that Lawrie has decided to up and leave at the first sign of money, who are we going to get in to replace him?

My feeling is that Lariw leaving will demoralise the players alot (esp Healy) so we need a manager who can come in and get them up for the remaining qualifying games. The one name that comes to mind for me is Iain Dowie, but seeing as he has just recently taken over at Coventry, im not sure that he would leave.

Other names in the frame are Jim Magilton and Gerry Armstrong.

Who would everyone like to take over, and who do u think will?

By the way before anyone says Martin O'neill they had better wake up.....

Gerry Armstrong should be the absolute target, after all he's the only norn iron man with the highest profile.
But really the ifa shouldn't be scared to approach Ruud Hulliet, Gus Hiddink or even Fabio Capello! seriously Norn Iron have the most difficult group of all British nations and they top the group!!

If they want a guy who's never played a game of professional football in his life ... Why not Colin Murray?

Can't see any online application forms though!

with respect to Andrewg82, Nicky Butt is a great player, but needs at least some experience before being considered for a managerial job. Who knows, Stuart pearce is free now? maybe this could even be the time to bring Ron Atkinson back into the managerial fold? has all the experience and has worked with some great players - Bryan robson, mark hughes, norman whiteside, stapelton, dion dublin etc.

A big international name would be a huge mistake. Gerry Armstrong knows the squad, knows how we have achieved our recent success and is a legend with the fans

Re-sign David Healy; i agree brian kerr is no good but it would be stupid to discount any-one just because they never played professional. like Wegner, Mouriniho, Houllier. I know they wont be interested in the NI job but they prove you dont need to be a former pro to be a good manager

Big (and getting bigger) Davy wouldn't have the respect of the players

So were saying that Martin O’Neill wouldn’t take the job then? Shame…

9th in the all time caps with 66, that’s more than Armstrong to name but one.

8 goals, just one less than the mighty George.

Captain of the legendary 82 squad.

Management wise his record is stunning.

With Huges and Davis playing for villa he already manages around 18% of the team so he has a head start on anyone else.

Armstrong is a non starter for me. There has been a lot of talk about Lawrie leaving at the first sniff of big money but lets face it, Armstrong left the Northern Ireland fold for exactly the same reason. Didn’t he?

So since O’Neill wont take the job I will have to vote for Mr Magilton, he obviously cares a lot about the team and talks a lot of sense on the match round ups. Also, my spell checkers suggestion for his name is Megaton; I see this as a sign that he could have a big impact…..

Magilton has just come out and said that he would be interested in the job on a part time basis. However i dont think the IFA will want this.

Also talk today of possibly Neil Warnock??! not sure im too keen on that idea!

I know this will be a bit out of the blue & perhaps a long shot, but has anyone considered the return of Terry Nicholson (ex Portadown, Glenavon & Cliftonville)? People would like to see a local man for the job who can motivate.

Any thoughts?
