Chelsea plan to applaud Man Utd

Premiership Manchester United
comment on the article

Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho will ask his players to applaud Premiership champions Manchester United on to the pitch at Stamford Bridge on Wednesday.
United gave Chelsea a guard of honour when they won the title two years ago.

And after Chelsea's draw with Arsenal handed United the title, Mourinho said: "We shall do the same for them.

"This is not a time for excuses. I wish to congratulate the manager, the players, the board - and everyone else who gave them a help to be champions."

Despite conceding the title to United, Mourinho said his players could hold their heads high when they face the new champions on Wednesday.

"Sometimes, when you win a lot of trophies, you can reach a point when you do not give everything," he said.

"The commitment and ambition are not the same or you are not hungry enough to win again or you lose something mentally.

"Exactly the opposite has happened for us. The players have given us more this season than they did in the previous ones when we didn't have any injuries or other problems.

"I always knew one day I would not be a champion. But when it happened I didn't want to be blaming myself or the players or the other people I work with."

"'Everyone else presumably means backroom staff'

Yeah, right. After the conspiracy theories he touted about the penalties, I don't think so..."

...............................................

Funny that, I dont remeber Sir Alex Ferguson joining in at old Trafford a couple of years back. So why should Jose?

Plus whats all the fuss about. Mourinho has said there will be a guard of honor, so has JT. So why cant people just accept that? Instead they have to make a massive will they/wont they fuss because its Chelsea and they couldnt possibly miss out on a chance of a dig. Could they?

True sportsmen are competitive right up to the moment when competition is over, and magnanimous the moment the whistle blows.

It would be a display of pettiness beyond belief, were chelsea to not honour United at Stamford Bridge, and that includes the fans as well as the players.

However, as a Manchester United fan, I have respect for the likes of John Terry and Frank Lampard etc, I have faith in he fact that they are gentlemen as well as footballers, and know the mark of true champions is dignity in defeat. I have no doubt whatsoever that they will applaud United on Wednesday, in recognition of the achievement of their fellow sportsmen.

In a strange way, one of United's greatest moments in recent times for me, was when Old Trafford gave Ronaldo (the brazilian one) a standing ovation when he was substituted after scoring a hat-trick at Old Trafford when Real Madrid played there a few years ago. It's that kind of dignity which made me support Manchester United in the first place.

It seems alot of y'all hate Chelsea for no reason and envy or maybe jealous of Mourniho.

How many of y'all can match his success? He's won leagues, Champions League and UEFA cup. Hes got millions in the bank.

Leeds had alot of money why didn't they win the league? Why hasn't Real Madrid won anything in the past few years?

Some Man U fans are starting to sound arrogant too. You claim Mourniho isnt gracious in defeat, well you guys are not any different in winning either.

I think alot of people here hate Chelsea because of the success they have found recently. Liverpool hasn't won the league presently only Arsenal, Man U and Chelsea has recently.

laugh
Bitter? Keep on biting it, its get better.

ANd I dont know, this might seem like gracious in defeat if I didnt hear Mourinho's interview, he said : "They did it for us, so we'll have to do it for them"...or something along those line. Now I dont know about you guys but that just doesnt seem like its freewill at all, he felt obligate to it. ALso his interview after the Arsenal match, this is the gist I get from it : "They got lucky, we are still the best"...

Gracious in defeat??? Far from it. Mourinho can learn alot from his captain, I feel.

Well they did give United a guard of honour. I think both Chelsea and United have respect for each other in a professional sense. They are the two teams to beat domestically at the minute. I like how they both play, United with their free flowing attacks and Chelseas never say die attitude. They both are good sides, you can't say any other. Arsenal will come good I'm sure and Liverpool will always have fits and starts. The league, FA Cup and League Cup will always have one of those four names on it. Despite the odd occasion.
