The greatest Crucible win?

comment on the article

That's it. At 0054 BST on Tuesday 8 May the 2007 World Snooker Championship came to an end.

And what an epic way to draw a close to this year's event.

The final broke last year's record of the latest finish by two minutes, but that did not tell the whole story.

Mark Selby's brave fightback will stay long in my mind - the way the "Jester from Leicester" fought from the brink of defeat to almost the brink of victory.

I hope the 23-year-old gets a hero's welcome in his home town and I hope he gets the world title he deserves in the coming years.

As for champion John Higgins - well, what can you say.

It's been nine years since he won his first world title - a long time for somebody regarded as one of the best players to have ever graced the green baize.

But now he's done it - albeit the hard way.

He told BBC Sport that it was his finest performance - and not many would disagree.

It took great guts and volumes of concentration to hold off Selby's charge.

The finest Crucible win? I'll let you guys discuss.

I think this years World was a great advert for snooker. White didnt make it, Ding had an early exit and Ronnie didnt live up to the expectations of the nation.

But regardless of that we saw some amazing snooker from Carter, Selby, Maguire and Higgins to name a few.

the final its too was very dramatic regardless of the 18 - 14 scoreline which may appear a relatively comfortable win for higgins.

68 Centuries too, what more do people want from this sport? Robertson showed some class too.

I agree with the statements that many of today's top players are 'robots' and don't have much in the form of personality, but what about Selby? He was often seen joking around the table (e.g trying to drop balls into the pockets by jumping) and having a good laugh with the audience members whilst in his chair. He seemed a lot more happy than most players show at any snooker event. Not only was he an excellent player, but also a very likeable person, and one I will be supporting every event from now on!

Hey every1!!! Hope all is well!! I agree with every1 Mark Selby is a top class snooker player and I am really happy for him to come all the way to the finals. I am his BIGGEST fan ov all time and I love him to bits. I can't wait for him to play again at Sheffield coz am gonna go and watch him. I have had moments thinkin that he won't make it to the final but seems like I was proven wrong. He should be really proud of himself I know for sure that I would be!! Come on SELBY!!!! I wonder if the schedule for such an important event particularly the final should be altered in some way, perhaps a day off before the final. These players may be fit and most of them young but whatever your age the pressure is enormous and to ask players to produce their best for 17 days is a big ask, i know the tv has a tight schedule but i reckon Mark Selby was suffering from such a grueling semi final and it certainly showed in the 1st session of the final which i think is what cost him as realistically he was never going to catch up, i know it can be argued its the same for both players but if you want a show piece final we have to look after the players.
