Wrexham 3 - 1 Boston United

Date:
5 May 2007
Competition:
League Two
comment on the article

A second-half fightback secured Wrexham's Football League status but Boston were condemned to the drop.

Boston, who lost 3-1, entered into a Company Voluntary Arrangement before the game but it has yet to be confirmed if they have been deducted 10 points.

Francis Green gave Boston the lead but Drewe Broughton fouled Danny Williams and Ryan Valentine scored the penalty.

Paul Ellender went close for Boston, but in the last minutes Chris Llewellyn and Mike Proctor won it for Wrexham.

We were awful in the first half but Carey made them come out early for the 2nd half and whatever he said, it worked. It was still very tight and I have no finger nails left but a good result if you are a Wrexham fan.

Boston Bung are finally excreted from the Football League. Their cheating antics won them a poisoned prize 5 years ago; the corruption of the Conference competition was rife. Only one club in history has had its officials 'done' for tax evasion. There is a terrible stench around Boston. It's the team that is the odd one out from the rule. I never want to see any club fold; for Boston, I make an exception. Pull the ground down and build a sewage works there - that's all it's good for!

No all Imps fans are glad to see Boston back down... for the size of the town, being in the league in the first place was a remarkable achievement.. i'll miss the trip to see the FenMonkeys.. all the best next season.

Well played united, it just wasn't meant to be, but how things could of changed if only ellender had put that chance away. Well done to Wrexham and their supporters and good luck next season. Heres to a new season, board and manager and a few players. good luck Boston.

Boston leave the league as they entered it - with a points deduction.

A truly corrupt club, whose manager and former chairman have been prosecuted for tax fraud, who lodged false contracts with the FA to pay less tax. They should never have been promoted.

Seeing as Boston should never have been in the League in the first place, Dagenham have some justice at last and can thumb their noses on the way up.

This is truly a shame as it besmirches not only the club, its players and supporters but the good name of the municipality itself. Those of us here in its namesake in America are quite crestfallen. We implore the club not to drag down the esteemed name of Boston with you when you go down. Always remember, you have the honor of both cities to uphold. We don't want to regret naming our fair city after you rather than some other. Onward and upward, dear sister city, for the reputation of both Boston's!
