the_speshul_wan (U8248052) posted May 2, 2007 In the age of the internet, text, e-generation the award nominations could be submitted at the end of the season where guys like Stephen Kenny from Dunfermline could be rewarded. If he keeps them up, they are in the UEFA cup and the final of the Scottish Cup. Now if they go on to win that you'd be hard pressed to argue that this guy wouldn't be in the frame for Manager of the Year. This guy was the manager of Derry when they turned over Gretna who have just been promoted into the SPL for 2007/08. Every so often a manager comes along and the way he impacts the team, the way he speaks to the press after games and his general demeanour says this is a guy who is going to have a great career. Having these kind of votes at the very end of the season can more accurately account for a full season in management and footballing. Strachan for the last 16 in the Champions League is a more than worthy manager of the year but over the next few weeks, if Dunfermline can stay up and especially if they win the Scottish Cup it would add weight to this argument.

Tobikid (U4519396) posted May 2, 2007 Manager of the year wasn't much of a competition this year, although I agree Kenny is a decent shout. I'm a Dons fan and I think Calderwood has done wonders for us, but our cup form and lack of bite against the old firm wouldn't really justify the managers' award. Strachan won the league and got into the last 16 in Europe. Fair doos.

Floridadweller (U6991922) posted May 2, 2007 Shunsuke and Strachan definitely deserve the awards. Shunsuke is a great little player. Other teams know it and tend to key on him, otherwise I think he'd have scored more goals from general play. It's amazing to see him come back and defend near his own byline. I am not a fan of the Celtic style as created by Strachan, but when you think of what he inherited--key players moving on--and then the disaster in Bratislava, he never gave up and managed to turn things around quite nicely.
