Australia vs South Africa

One-day internationals Australia

The second semi final features two of the finest run machine teams in the world. Australia, whose world cup so far has included a group stage victory over the Proteas, have been in devastating form. Few teams have managed to match the level of intensity that Australia has brought to the carribean after a dreadful finish to the series in New Zealand.

South Africa by contrast have suffered a mixed world cup, from the shock loss to Bangladesh, to a crushing victory over England to guarentee their place in the semi final. This game heralded a return to form for the South Africans, and they will be confident that they have the abillity and power necessary to overcome the so far undefeated two time champions.

Can South Africa do the seemingly impossible and halt Australia's march to a third sucessive world cup triumph, or will the Aussie juggernaut continue rolling?

Atleast the fact that Australia and Sri Lanka are in the final means that the Super 8s haven't been made to look completely ridiculous. Still the fact that the semis and finals will go by so quickly in comparison to the drawn out group stages is laughable on its own.

Anyway it's a sad state of affairs that there are only two above mediocre one day sides in the world. One day cricket was designed to give greater excitement and unpredictability to the game. Yet arguably it is now more tiresome both for players and fans than test match cricket. The West Indies never took one day cricket seriously neither did India or to an extent England or Pakistan. So why on earth are we taking up the energies of the best players with so many one day tournaments and internationals, scrap some of them so we can see more quality test matches.

It has been a poor world cup marred by the incident following the Pakistand-Ireland match. The only ray of sunshine is that the two teams that deserve to be in the final are in the final, no other teams have such balance throughout. I hope that it will be a very good game, but if the Australian's play aswell as they have been so far in the tournament, smashing the world number one team prior too the tournament twice, then I unfortunately don't really see that it is going to be much of a match. Hopefully the 20-20 tournament will be more exciting!

Well done Australia and thanks South Africa for showing us the difference between winners and losers in every moment of the game.
South African team did not believe they are better than Australians and they self-imposed that pressure on them.I like them on this aspect on the view that they are honest deep within.

South Africa is dis-appointing me again not for losing but for the way they lost.
Smith's strategy is not working when the oppostion is changing in every match as in the world cup.The SouthAfricans struggle to make 300+ run in every match. They appear better than Australia in a match and they appear as if they are the worst recognized team in another match. But the fact is they don't have and can't deliver high standard of cricket in varying conditions.I conclude the current players lack "true talent" and the current selectors chose "hyped talent" instead of picking players like Kevin Pietersen.
Their cricket is like Indian cricket, shambolic.

No doubt you're right about the 2 finalists being the best 2 teams edwindeva, & I hope, for the good of the game, that you're right about our 27 match winning run being tested. But I hope you're wrong about us being beaten, so we'll see wont't we?

Thecolourfulsheep:

It was indeed dodgey - and a little bit suspect - of Sri Lanka to do that. 'Resting' your 3 best bowlers against a World Champion batting attack... Smells 'fishy' and not really in the spirit of a World Cup...

People don't seem to want Australia to win on Saturday - but I hope we do. We DESERVE to win. No one else so far has played up to standard or without some kind of agenda.

Australia - let's make it 3 times in a row...biggrin

ICC should cancel the membership of Australia, they are not playing cricket this is something else, they are giving no chance to any team, they have denied the luck factor and as far as I know, cricket used to be a game of chance. They are too good for any team to have a match.

Well done Australia
