Watford 1 - 1 Manchester City

comment on the article

Watford became the first team to be relegated from the Premiership this season after drawing with Manchester City at Vicarage Road.

The Hornets knew they needed victory to keep alive their slim survival hopes but could not break City down early on.

City were gifted the lead when Ben Foster made a hash of a clearance and let Darius Vassell curl the ball home.

Tamas Priskin drilled home an equaliser and Marlon King could have won it for Watford but he headed wide late on.

Give your thoughts on the match and Watford's prospects for next season.

All credit to Watford, last year at the play-off's I wrote them off but they won it and went to the premiership. They have been punching above their weight and played some good football, deserved to draw with Chelsea at Vicarage Road and financially they are sound. They got about £25 million for their stay in the premiership and for winning the play-off's last season, if you add in the £10 million from Ashley Young's move to Villa that's quite a bit of money. Boothroyd didn't spend much money so as a result he will be under no pressure to sell players, the futures looking bright for Watford if they look after themselves.

once teams get promoted they don't have nearly enough money to buy half decent players and thus get a chance or surviving
=======

The new TV deal makes it vital to be in the Premiership next season. Anyone who's not there, isn't likely to get there any time soon.

i think watford deserved to go down, but they were extremely unlucky in some games and could have gotten more points, like in their first game of the season they hit the crossbar around 4 times and then in the last minute of added time Speed scored a penalty.

Lets be honest we were never really up to the job this year, but just being there in the first place is an awesome achievement for a club of this size.
The squad looks good - and theres even money to buy if needs be. The parachute payment and money from Ashleys sale should make sure of that.
If nothing else, it'll be nice to go to the Vicarage expecting some wins next year !!
and 2boomcapz - im sure you're as gutted as I am that Luton got relegated !!!

I think that this season has been one of real lessons which I hope that Watford have learned from as they will benefit enormously. It is worth mentioning though that lady luck, while she may have shined on us all season in 2005-2006, certainly left us out in the cold a bit in 2006-2007 - if a football match ended on 85 minutes instead of 90 (or 96 up at Bolton!!) Watford would be comfortably mid-table today... but that's football eh? Finally, just a small mention for Captain Gavin Mahon - what a sterling effort and achievment all season from a player who would probably happily admit to be 'punching well above his weight' in the Premier League, but who has held his own, captained magnificently and scored the 2006-2007 Premier League Goal Of The Season against Portsmouth - who needs Rooney and Moanaldo??

We have been unlucky ever since Everton got a penalty from a chris Powells header on the first day of the season at goodison park

Don't worry Watford will be back

STRONGER THEN EVER!!!!!!

Aidy Boothoyd has the team, the momentum and the power to get us back in the big time and along with the new look stadium at Vicarage Road

Having been a Watford supporter for 50 years , even a couple of times donning a juniors shirt I am used to the ups and downs of the club.
I cannot help thinking the recent dominance of foreign players in the Premier league is linked to the progressive decline of the english national team.
Teams like Watford will have a more level playing field if premier division teams have a salary cap and this could in return reduce the numder of imports and act as an incentive to young english players.
Having said that I am looking forward to seeing Becks play here in Southern California.
