Taken from the BBC site just now -

any potential takeover of the club.
Kroenke recently bought 9.9% of Arsenal and also acquired more shares from major stakeholder Danny Fiszman, sparking talk of a takeover.

But Hill-Wood told the Guardian: "The shareholders would prefer to stay in control than sell out to some stranger.

"We would be horrified to see ownership of the club go across the Atlantic."

Hill-Wood claims that he and three of the club's major shareholders - Fiszman, Lady Nina Bracewell-Smith and the Carr family - have "no intention of selling".

He added: "These people love Arsenal, they are independently wealthy and do not need the money. Having a few extra million pounds in the bank is of no interest to them.

"We're here for Arsenal football club, not to make a few bob. The club has been run for the benefit of supporters, staff and players."

What do fellow fans think of this? Personnaly I am happy with this news. I was always against a take over of the club and this may put some rumours to bed. I think the club is very well run from the top down, and I like to think that we will be spending money the club atually makes rather than relying on a foreign investor.

there are alot of foreign players that are cheaper and better than most english players dont blame arsenal for going that route. a club should do whatever it needs to do to get ahead of the pack. i admire the arsenals youth policy system.anyway thats my good deed for the day...

ARSENAL FC one of the best clubs in the history of football. The Spirit of arsenal will be lost if it is sold to some tom dick or bob in america. The chairman as lifted our spirits with this announcement.

agree with this comment, arsenal dont need foreign investment, the emirates will soon start paying its way and they will be the same financial level (almost) as man u. its good to see arsenal staying out of the takeover game that seems to be all the rage. they are a great club and long may they remain that.

Get real U.K. you ain't what you used to be. Little Israel virtually kicked your butts and right now the USA national team would probably bury you.Enjoy your media infused fantasies 1966 will probably never happen again

I don't think there are many people with integrity left in this overpiced, overhyped game. Most of them are in it for the money or, in one or two cases, to launder some. But when I read Hill-Wood's comments today about the Arsenal shareholders loving the club and not being interested in a few million quid more, I now realise why I am an Arsenal supporter myself. I don't want to see the heart and soul of this club sold down the swannee and winning is NOT everything and should not come at ANY price.

Arsenal Football Club is an English club, there is no question of this. They have played in the top flight of the English game for over 100 years and have numerous honours to support this fact. Anyone needing detail of this feel free to ask and if there's room to I'll list them all to corroborate this.

Peter Hill-Wood has established himself firmly as my hero in just a few short days. His attitude towards keeping them club funded by the pound and not the dollar is admirable and in time will doubtless draw increased support for the club.

Agent 82, your ramblings are those of a madman or someone who has perhaps suddenly decided that they like football since the media hype has alerted them to it. The 60k fans that come to the Emirates each and every week come because they want to be a part of something special, a self funding British club which has fought to stay in the highest echelons of the game and not been catapulted there by the rancid investment of Johnny Foreigner.

Balanga, you are quite right, 1966 will not happen again, such are the laws of chronology. You see, when the big hand and the little hand move around, the time changes and then, magically the date does too. Crazy eh? Another time based fact for you, Arsenal have been playing football in the top flight for almost as long as you have been squatting in that big ol' country of yours.

For Peter Hill-Wood read ' King Canute ' winkeye The Yank has bought even more shares today, and when Dein sells his block to him, he'll be the largest single shareholder - there's also another 30% of shares outside the control of PHW, and once the Yank buys these ( and he will ) he'll own over 50% - then it becomes not a matter of IF ... but WHEN he gets the rest ...

I'm a foreign Arsenal supporter and like many of the fans (UK or not) am attracted to 2 key pts abt arsenal: History & greeeat football!

In this age of commercial interests and wheeling & dealings, i suppt PHW and co in their decision to keep the club's HISTORY going: For the fans by the fans and not just another potential milk cow for some investor.

There are other ways of making money without compromising Arsenal's tradition other than floating in the stock exchange or opening up to outside buyers/investors.

A message to the Board: well done keep it in the family but keep rolling the football flavour! Go gunners go, keep rocking the football grounds!
