Wigan Athletic v Tottenham Hotspur

Premiership Wigan Athletic
comment on the article

The Latics have slipped into the relegation dogfight as a result of a four-match winless run.

Emile Heskey gave them the lead in both Easter matches, home to Bolton and away to Aston Villa, but they were not able to stay in front and increased the number of points they've lost from winning positions this season to an unparalleled 24.

This is the fourth meeting with Spurs (all in the Premiership) and the Latics are still looking for a first victory.

Spurs go into the weekend third in the Premiership's "Last Six Current Form" table with 15 points from the 18. They're well placed to match their highest ever Premiership finish of fifth last season, and thus qualify once again for Europe.

Give your thoughts on the match.

ANOTHER fine example of how NOT to defend by Tottenham... and when Emile Heskey scores in the first minute you know you've got problems!

Credit to Spurs for coming back three times but we really should be beating the likes of Wigan!

doh

The season long problem of conceading almost as many goals as we score has cost us BIG TIME this season and I just hope Chelsea get to the cup final so 7th in the Premiership means a Uefa Cup place as we're not going to make the top six when we keep giving goals away as cheaply and as often as we do - only five clean sheets in the Premiership ALL season says it all.

Arsene Whinger and his foreign legion come to WHL next week and I'm not holding out much hope for that one either - a draw at the most as we haven't beaten Arsenal for years!

grr

It's slightly disappointing we only got the one point. Scharner missed about three sitters. We played excellently but yet again gave some sloppy goals away. Baines and Boyce were brilliant, giving Lennon nothing throughout.

Great fight, but it should never have been that difficult.
Zokora was a disgrace, Lennon was invisible and Ifil looked totally devoid of confidence.
We really need a few more players to take responsibility - too many sideways passes and not enough players ready to grab hold of the match & earn the right to play.
JJ was up for it, Daws was 100% as usual, but Berba didn't look that hungry.
Still believe BMJ needs to make more decisive substitutions earlier in matches - with a bit if earlier impetus from a Defoe or a Ghaly we might have wrested control back when the momentum dropped in the second half.
Once again, the chips are down and I wish I felt more confident about our able to "seize the moment"
Eighth would be a disaster and, despite their apparently tougher run-ins, we cannot rely upon Bolton/Everton/Portsmouth dropping sufficient points.

Disappointed not to win, the defence was to old and made many mistakes had we had a younger quicker centre half partnering de zeeuw, we'd have won. We wasted many shots too, should have had the game wrapped up early in the second half. Shots statistics were 28 to Wigan 12 to Spurs, tells a story of the games pattern. Play like that(but beter defending) for the remaining 4 games and we should be ok.

Tell you what, no wonder you get poor crowds, the atmopshere was boring at the JJB, is it always like that? No wonder people say it isnt a football town!

Our performance today? not good, but i came out happier than latics fans, any team that throws the lead away 3 times has problems, plus they should of been fresher than us, we played thurs. Latics need to start winning soon, just incase the others do, cos if charlton and sheff start winning more latics are good i'm afraid.

But crowds like that only deserve championship football!

Same old story for Spurs... score for fun but can't defend to save our lives. Just wish Ledley had been playing this season sadface

Credit to Wigan who were probably better than us yesterday, hope they can avoid the drop!

COYS!!

What the hell are you talking about? The atmosphere was very good? Why didn't Spurs sell their allocation? I thought they were a MASSIVE club?

Our crowds are fantastic considering where we've come from. I don't know why I bother explaining myself to tools like you. 11 years ago, we were averaging 1,500. We had to compete with a successful Rugby League team, teams like Liverpool, Everton, United, etc., when we were a non-league club.

London has a population of 7,000,000. Add this to the fact that Spurs are more successful and have historically achieved a lot more, our fanbase will never match up.

Is this sour grapes because you scraped a draw against us?
