Grand National: Pundit predictions

comment on the article

Greetings

Not long now, and the Wednesday before the National is never a pleasant one for me as all kinds of last-minute nonsense needs to be sorted out.

Still, you won't be bothered about that, but more interested in who's going to win the big one.

A rolling list of pundit predictions will appear on the BBC Sport website. These will be updated as we get nearer the big day, but I can tell you Clare Balding is tipping a 25-1 chance, so fair play to her.

Here's the link to the predictions:
news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/oth...

Clare and others to appear in due course :)

Good luck to Claire Balding who has tipped Liberthine. None of the top pundits have tipped Point Barrow

Seems a bit risky sending a pregnant horse to the national. I know it works on the flat but if anything bad happens to her the foals not going to live, surly. Even more risky with an amateur jockey on board. Strange, fingers crossed though. Personally I dont think she stands a chance of winning.

i don't really understand some of the "Experts"' tips, as you say fondmort none back Point Barrow to win and there is support for horses which don't stay (Liberthine & Idle Talk in particular), ah well we shall all see at around half 4 on saturday! The money for Joes Edge is extraordinary, i tipped him on here only a week ago saying 16s were great ods for each way and now he is 8/1?

i was thinking point barrow but for some reason i have gone off it completely, i really cant see joes edge winning either, i have yet to place my bets but im liking billydovan, bewleys berry, bothar na and jack high. jack high only being there as i won a hand at poker thanks to a jack. im also going for a bet on puntal or ballycassidy, i think a large odds horse will win this year, i have not won since red marauder on 33-1.

I think the days of over 11st winning the national will improve due to the tightness of the handicap. As the course has been modified (made safer or easier) and better horses tend to run, as the handicapper relents to attact these horses, I think the winner of the GN could well come from the top 12 in the race.
Bookmakers have specials on the winning weight, although we won't see these novelty bets till Saturday
What do people think.
I have had Idle Talk & Slim Pickings a small e/w interest, so I have one from each side of the weight divide. I would think Idle Talk would be the better of those two.
Any comments on what sort of weight the winner will carry?

if an 11 stone plus wins i can see it being between 11 0 and 11 5 giving no6vv, idle talk and billyvoddan best chance, think no6vv will want the ground a little softer though.

winning weight ~ 10 st 2 lol
if an 11st plus does win it will be NO6VV, Billyvoddan won't stay the 4m 4f nor will Idle talk.

"Well Cheif 07" le duc is in the race he is number 40 and just made the cut behind joes egde at number 39! and if u move fast you will get him at 50/1 instead of slim pickings at 33/1

My prediction is they'll shoot 3 horses after the race.
