Pearce's Record on Transfers

Premiership Manchester City

comment on the article

Stuart Pearce appealed to the City board this week for transfer funds for the summer.
If you look at his track record on signings and the heavy debt burden of the club in recent years, I wouldn't be handing Stuart a blank cheque.
I can hardly think of a successfull signing since he took the job. His success with players has been....

- developing those already with the club
Dunne, Distin, Weaver.

and

- bringing youngsters through our fantastic academy
Barton, Jordan, Richards, Onuha, Miller, Johnson, Ireland etc.

Just look at the catalogue of failures he has signed.

- Vassel, quick but can't finish and has never been a prolific scorer.
- Samaras. £5m for the weakest 6ft 4" forward who can't even head the ball!
- Corradi. Top of the league for yellow/red cards and hasn't got a clue where the goal is.
- Dabo. How on earth can this guy have played for France and at the highest level in Italy?
- Trabelsi. A couple of good games them complete apathy.
- Beasely. Too weak and not even that quick.
- Thatcher. Reached a level of thuggery even Pearce couldn't accept.

I will give him the benefit of the doubt with Hamman, hopefully he will come good. Ball looks OK as well, but if Pearce can't spot a good left back, then heaven help us.

My message to the board...

sign Mpenza, but don't give Pearce millions, he will waste it.

Bring on the academy.

Beasley is doing well, fellas. Three goals this season after having moved in from Holland and adjusting to a new system. The Yank footballers in England are good...you have to give us some credit. I know the MLS isn't the EPL, but we're working on it. I've been an EPL fan my entire life and learned to love the sport while watching Man U and Crystal Palace as a kid. I always pull for England (after the US squad, of course) and I think you'll get through in Euro 2008! Best all!

I am Stuart Pearces biggest critic.

His ability and enthusiasm is not in question, it is his judgement.

He really thinks he is a top class manager and does not realise that he is far from it.

The way he bought Samaras was a clear case of being sucked into doing a deal that nobody else was bothered with. Maybe a £1m bid would have been enough, Malcom the great was good a paying £1m when the asking price was 100k,

Can City afford to let him have another year, I dont think so.

Any manager, hoever expeienced, needs more than 2 seasons to build a squad challenging for honours, unless he is at a money-no-object-club. Experienced managers have made quite a few bad buys along the way. Bring in a new manager and it would set us back a couple of years as wholesale changes would be made to the squad. I am not a fan of the Pearce-out brigade, probably because I have seen it all before at City.

I agree with quickPeterpiper. How many times have we been in a similar position in the past 3 decades, sacked the manager and found that nothing has improved. Look at the difference Mpenza has made in the short time he has been up front. Imagine where we might have been in the league if he was playing for City 12 months ago. Its not a new manager we need, its a forward who can get 20 goals over a season.

I guess those of you calling for Chris Coleman to replace Stuart Pearce are feeling a little silly this morning

i genuinely think SP is the best man for the job. he has real passion and a good set of young players at the club who will only improve. to sack him would be silly. do you think bolton would be where they are now if they dumped sam when they got relegated (a couple of times if i recall)? even man u wanted alex out in the 80's...

need to give a manager several years to get his own squad, in entirety.

SP like all managers gamble on transfers. I'm a big Vassel fan but think he's dissapointed in front of goal this year. Samaras should be given one more season, only because no-one will buy him at present.Spending 10 -20m won't guarantee success. Spurs have spent a fortune in the past 18 months and they are only in 7th place in the premiership. SP has done great with the youngsters, KK wouldn't have given them a chance. If city finish in the top ten next year it's progress, but as a lifelong blue you wouldn't bet on it. Get behind SP and the lads, give him some cash and give him at least another crack next season.

Quite funny how 3 wins and 1 draw can change a mood I still feel we should say thank you mr pearce but it's time for a change and welcome Chris Coleman , his sacking at fulham ,just like alan pardew's at west ham was a big mistake/ Coleman has been selling his best and getting very little in return ever since he took charge.

Regardless I think Coleman is an impressive young manager and you can call me back on this that coleman will be back and will be a very good manager for years to come.

Anyway back to Pearce I often just see no sense of direction in the way we play , 2 centrebacks/3 centrebacks wingers/no wingers no real attacking gameplan.

Even if we win the next 6 games and end on 58 points I will still say the same thing : Our performances have not been good enough !

leave beasly alone he's a terrific player and hasent had the chance to show all his ability because he is only chosen every 6 matches or something rediculous yet still he's scored 4-5 goals and had more good matches than bad

SP is still the best man for the job, all the teams in the mid section have a problem with consistency and scratching around for players dosen't help, all managers have failures in the transfer market, Ferguson and Mourhino have plenty of them kicking around, but with financial muscle they have plenty of options, mid table teams just can't afford that cover when a couple of players don't settle in, particularly strikers where confidence is paramount. Get behind the manager give him some money to build around a great nucleus of young players before they also become disillusioned..
